Does it have filter indicator when need to change

No it doesn’t, you need to follow the guidelines on the filter and jug to judge when you should change the filter but I would say with 6 replacement filters, you can change the filter regularly enough to ensure it’s effectiveness and it still last well beyond a year. And when you finally run out of filters buy a new jug and 6 filters and start again. To add, the filter replacement indicator is a timer, it has no idea how much life is left in the filter.

How full are you supposed to fill this jug?

Fill to the very top. It then filters down into the chamber below and is ready to poor. It only pour from bottom first. No spill at all. Get one they are great!!

I can't get the lid to fit, is it defective or just poor design?

I would return and request a new one- mine fits perfectly and pours smoothly without drips.

After installing the filter, i noticed that it doesn't align with the inner sleeve; it sits (almost) diagonally on it. what am i doing wrong? thanks!

I'd suggest you remove the cartridge and reattempt , it clicks when it's in place. it's not a problem I'd experienced. One thing I have is now tho that the lid no longer sits properly onto the jug, third filter change and annoyed it's done this for no apparent reason! ,
