Great book, ignore the political reviews
Not sure why people want to read or bring their own politics into children's book that other people buy for their kids - you're welcome not to buy it for you own! This is a great book and nothing to do with gender change at all, but about Billy being brave about wearing whatever he wants. I thought it resonated really well for kids enjoying dressing up in whatever they want to, irrespective of what other kids think.I would say though that if your kid is young enough that this hasn't bothered them yet, as another review pointed out, that's great and perhaps don't buy it for them yet (our kid is 3). For older kids who have already faced this depressing reality at e.g. school, I highly recommend it. Note that in the shops this book is free, but at the time of writing online this book is a token £1 (reasonable for postage IMHO). It is also much smaller than the other books in the series.

Nice story and illustrations
It's never easy to like things other people tell you are silly, or you think they may think are silly. But we all do have such things be it a TV programme, a hobby, a favourite sports team, or a favourite super hero.BIlly is a child who has a favourite super hero. He thinks they are great. So he wants to dress up as them for this year's World Book Day at school. But he's worried others may not like his choice and his outfit. Should he do it...

Super cute superhero book
We have a few of the full sized books on this series by this author. The cover is pretty, it beautifully illustrated and it's an easy read for children with a nice moral to the story about being brave. For just £1, for world book Day, it's worth every penny.

A message for all
Billy’s favourite superhero is Nature Girl and she’s who he’d love to dress up as for World Book Day. But she’s a girl. And he’s not. So people will laugh, right? So he should choose a male character instead, right? Find a ‘boy costume’ to wear instead, right?Wrong. What Billy loves most about Nature Girl is her bravery. And it’s something he wishes he had more of when it comes to picking the perfect costume. So when Nature Girl appears and encourages him to try, even when he feels scared, he ends up having the best day ever. All because he decided to be brave instead of worrying about what other people might think.Confidence is universal. Bravery is universal. The idea of being true to ourselves instead of being too scared to try. And it’s something we all struggle with from time to time. It doesn’t matter in what way this message applies to us, it’s just nice to know that bravery is a superpower we all possess.Be brave and have the BEST. DAY. EVER.

Wonderful WBD book!
It’s wonderful to see Tom Percival’s ‘A BIG BRIGHT FEELINGS’ book as part of the WBD 2023 collection. As always, these books are beautifully written and exquisitely illustrated. This time, our protagonist has a favourite superhero, that he’d love to dress up as for WBD but he’s worried because this superhero is a girl. She convinces him to embrace his love for a book character and face his fear that the children might not be understanding…Books are for all readers…there are no books for boys and books for girls, just stories for children to enjoy, with characters to love and emulate. Children should be free to read for pleasure, to share and enjoy books in a safe, anxiety-free environment, that is also free from judgement.I really can’t recommend this book more highly. I hope that all KS1 classrooms and libraries have a copy and that all children have an opportunity to read it.

Enjoyable read
This children's book is part of the releases for this year's World Book Day and is an enjoyable read with a nice message.Billy loves Nature Girl and wants to dress up as her for World Book Day, but he is scared and doesn't feel brave enough.I found this to be a nice story. I am new to the author and this is my first glimpse of their work but I really liked this one.It has a nice message as I mentioned and to me with childrens books I find that to be an important addition for a book to have.I loved the illustrations too.
