Light Mountain Henna Hair Color & Conditioner - Spicy Cinnamon Hair Dye for Men/Women, Henna Organic Leaf Powder and Botanicals, Chemical-Free Semi-Permanent Hair Color, 4 Oz

I had dyed my hair two months ago and did not like the uneven results and straw like hair I got. So I thought maybe I should try a natural product like henna. I never have used henna before I did not know what to expect (green or orange hair or no hair?). When I looked at the package, the powder was very greenish like green tea and so I thought oh no! But I did start and only used 1/4 of the package with boiled distilled water to a semi-thick paste which turned out to be all I needed for my hair which is medium long. That is a lot less to use and cheaper than the dyes I had used before. I only left the mixture set an hour before use. I put ginger in the mix to help smell and the smell was not bad, and a little white vinegar for activation. I used a plastic barbecue brush to apply the mixture to my hair, plastic utensils to mix it and glass bowl, old t-shirt, plastic gloves and old towel. I waited about three hours with shower cap on. I didn't apply any heat although the instructions says so. I rinsed the henna out of my hair leaning over a plastic container in the bath tub (the henna is thick and I didn't want it messing up the drain.) This worked okay and kept the tub clean too. I used a conditioner on second rinse to help remove the henna. The conditioner was very helpful. The color I got was the color I wanted (I have 1/3 gray in mouse brown hair naturally.) The gray in my hair accepted the henna quite nicely. The color was evenly distributed, and reddish-gold brown in color. Overall I am pleased because my hair now has more body and is so soft. This didn't dry my hair at all as my hair was dry to begin with so it actually conditioned it. My scalp condition also improved. I hope the color lasts and doesn't change later on to something funny, but so far I like this product very much. The allergy test I did before hand showed no staining on my skin and the strand test showed the color that I would get. The instructions with the product were very clear.

I have the coloring of a redhead -- pale skin and billions of freckles -- but my hair is naturally a kind of mousy brown. I used to color my hair with your standard issue Clairol et al, but it made my scalp SUPER sensitive and reading the ingredients on the box made my head hurt. So I began looking for a natural alternative that would still give me the red color I desired without frying my scalp and potentially flooding my body with all sorts of corrosive chemicals. I heard about henna from a friend and decided to give it a whirl. I first tried Light Mountain's plain Red shade, but didn't think it gave my hair enough of a red color -- it was more of a dark auburn than red. So I decided to give Bright Red a try and it was perfect! Rather than wiping the slate clean each time you apply it, henna adds to itself. I've colored my hair three times with this now and each time, the end result is a little different, but still a color I love. The color doesn't fade and it has a sort of natural, subtle ombre effect. My hair looks so much more "alive" with the subtle color differences, not to mention the shine and body the henna gives it. My suggestions: * WEAR GLOVES. If you don't, you'll end up looking an Oompa Loompa, I promise. You will also want to "grease" your hairline and ears with petroleum jelly, Vaseline, or olive oil to prevent the henna from dying those bits as well. * This is going to smell super earthy -- like a combination of wet dirt and hay -- so I add a bit of essential oils to the mix. Tea tree oil is currently my favorite. Peppermint oil made my head feel extra warm and my scalp felt like it was burning towards the end. * The instructions tell you to use water to mix the henna, but when I did, I didn't feel like it added any color at all. I've since had much better luck by using apple cider vinegar to mix the henna. * The instructions will also tell you that the dye only needs to sit for a couple of hours before using it, but again, I didn't feel like it added any color. I highly recommend letting it sit overnight before using. The acidic apple cider vinegar + the longer sit time = more dye release, which means more color transfer. * I like to experiment with additions. My favorite at the moment is a mix of paprika and cayenne pepper. I haven't figured out the exact perfect amount since I just eyeball it every time. And if the end result isn't what you were going for, you can mix up another batch and try again!

The colour is deep and rich and is quite dark if left in the max time. My hair was also thicker and had a nice shine

I have used henna a long time. this one is easier to apply and wash out than the previous brands I have used. The color is the same as colora henna.

Used reds of this brand and they always turned out great, this one didn't turn out that good.

I like this brand as it’s a bit deeper red than orange. Read about henna before you buy! It kills me when I read reviews of people complaining henna is messy and makes hair dry. It might feel dry if you don’t add some oils and that feeling goes away in a few days. It doesn’t actually dry your hair... I love henna for my hair, it removes dandruff, makes strand stronger, hair much healthier than before!
