Underwhelming, Even at a Low Price
This could have been so much more. Ultimately the game hearkens back the the 8-bit era where you try 100 times to complete something only because the character controls are so bad. Remember being knocked off a cliff in the first Ninja Gaiden or the first Castelvania by a bunch of enemies because you landed from a jump and hadn't regained control to move yet? The developers of this game have brought back all those nostalgic feelings of 8-bit rage and frustration for you. The game is also very short and can be completed in a little more than 1-hour. Additional frustration is served up when the game ends abruptly and you are presented with a "to be continued" message. Of course, it can only be continued after you purchase the next installment and this installment offers no replay ability. The game really misses the mark by omitting any cut scenes where the little girl bonds with her robot protector. You keep waiting for these moments..., and they simply never materialize. I really wanted to like/recommend this but it simultaneously falls short in too many areas to warrant more than 2-stars. 2-stars is generous.

hamstrung by a very few bad choices
really wanted to love this game. in fact i did love it, but not as completely as i had hoped. not cutting edge graphics ? who cares ? have these malcontents never heard of Minecraft or seen indie developer games ? the scenery is nostalgic in a "remember the first time you saw 'The Wizard of Oz' ?" kind of way. the girl, ever with her back to you, and the clunky robot are charming and simple. the scenery is lovely despite not being photo realistic. the sound and music were never a distraction for me, which is about all i ever hope for in a game whose sound settings are as limited as they are here.the story, if you are in the camp who maintains the position that there is one, is related in silence : for once i was delighted by a "story" that didn't have me nodding off waiting to regain control of the game. typically i think of the stories within games as being poorly thought out and puerile -- if i think anything of them at all -- so it was a relief to not deal with that.combat is probably the biggest mistake here ; give us solid controls or maintain a limited number of enemies. pick one. the word 'frustrating' fails to convey the intensity of the feelings evoked on several occasions, including situations where a dozen or more enemies come at you in ridiculously confined quarters, or the boss battles where you have every disadvantage (including "scripted battle" ... imagine needing to play in fixed patterns as in Pac-Man). on an amusing note, the developer's included a "Press R1 to stealth kill", which never happens again : if an enemy actually is ignorant of your presence they will turn as you advance, and a sword slash may, or may not, stab them in the back, making this afterthought completely pointless as there is no element of stealth in this game.speaking of patterns and frustration ... one significant area of the game is played in interconnected mazes where the lack of even a constrained aerial perspective would have turned an inanely frustrating experience into a challenging one. the final two sections (if i recall correctly) were spent running blindly, trying to find the correct path to run without being nabbed by persuing enemies ... simply exasperating.if the designers had maintained the simple puzzles and introduced a workable combat system the game would actually have replay value for me ... but not everyone likes to enter a vegetative state where the mind can switch off, so you might disagree. as it is now i won't be buying subsequent installments - not even on clearance ; controllers are far too expensive to allow for that

Not perfect, but unique and charming
The Girl and Robot feels like I'm playing an older game, something perhaps from PS1 or PS2 days, not because of the graphics, but the general premise, the sounds effects, and the movement. None of which is a bad thing by any means, in fact, I think it's all of those factors that have made me really fall in love with this little game. It's short and sweet, but is unique and charming, I really enjoy this game, I love the character designs, the music is fantastic, and it really makes me feel a sort of nostalgic feeling while playing, despite never playing this game before. Is it perfect, of course not, the movement as I stated is quite clunky, and the combat can be tough at times because of this, which is the games biggest flaw, but to me it's a really enjoyable little game, one that looked unique enough for me to feel drawn towards it over a ton of other games before me, and despite never hearing about the game before, I decided to grab a copy, and I am sure glad I did.I purchased the game used at GameStop, but now I would like to get myself a new copy to support the developers, so here I am. :)

Simply Beautiful
This game really reminded me of the Ghibli movie, Castle in the Sky, when I first saw the cover. I really did enjoy this game and I love solving puzzles. Its simple gameplay and graphics is what makes it beautiful. It's like playing out an old folk story with a twist. In today's gaming world where many people only care about graphics, ample content, and game mechanics, this game is a very nice change of pace. Simple plot, simple characters, simply beautiful.

Decent for beginners
I bought this game without looking up any info beforehand and even though it isn't up to par with visuals or mechanics of current games it is interesting to play. It doesn't take a lot of thought to play and isn't a stressful game. Very short so the price versus play time isn't quite there. I wish they would have made it a bit longer. My son loves it. He plays it without getting too frustrated and he's only 4 1/2 years old. So it's a great beginner game for young ones. That's for sure. The facial expressions the girl makes are God awful. Worst complain. Almost funny how bad they are.
