Will it pick up cat litter from a hard wood floor?

I’ve found that it’s pretty hit and miss to pick-up cat litter on hardwood/vinyl flooring. I use World’s Best cat litter, if that helps.

I want to use this in a pharmacy with carpet. Would it pick up things like pills and staple clips?

Pills, yes, but I'm not sure on staples. It would depend on if they were stuck into carpet or not. It does pick up quite a bit though

will it pick up fabric scraps and threads from a sewing room low loft carpet?

I don't know about fabric scraps, but it has picked up stray threads from my carpet. Hope this helps!

Can you take a segment out of the hand so it is shorter for children to use?

Yes. I tried it today by taking the middle segment out, and it fits together fine.
