OK, measured carefully, really wanted it to be 3.6" in diameter. It arrives at 3.875" ( or 3 7/8") so it is loose for even my larger mug. Super loose for a normal sized mug. The problem is they welded the bottom supports improperly and they are on an angle opening up the size of the cup holder. The good news is that it is pretty solid compared to a lot of these cup holders. I will use it despite manufacturing tolerances they missed completely. For most, all you need to know is this is large and might be larger than specified. Adding pic so you can see the bottom members which should be parallel but are not on the holder they sent me. YMMV.

I like that I can fit everything I've tried to in this, and the area for the handle is very useful for a mug of any sort. It will rotate back and forth along the desk if it's bumped, which isn't a huge issue, but something maybe worth noting if it's a dealbreaker for anyone. Not a dealbreaker at all for me, though.

I wanted a 4 inch diameter cup holder, and I bought this one although a bit smaller and I was able to widen the diameter by spreading the edges of the metal so that my 4 inch cup could fit in. Worked out great. I reccomend it!

Love the versatility

I was able to adapt this cup holder almost perfectly for installation on my power wheelchair armrest. The disc on the end of the included tension bolt popped off pretty easily (good for my purposes, maybe not so good for folks using the product as-is). My wheelchair controller is mounted on the right armrest, so I was able to use the tension knob on the left armrest in place of the bolt to mount the cup holder. It doesn't work out quite as perfectly as the (nearly identical) $45 one designed to insert into the controller mount, but I'll take a slightly imperfect solution over being extorted for being disabled any day!

I purchased this cup holder because my desk doesn't work for most clamping cup holders, and I needed one that I could attach to the leg of the desk instead of the table itself. This worked almost perfectly. Setting it into "Horizontal mounting mode" as they call it, was easily accomplished during assembly, which itself involves just four screws. Installing it onto the leg of the desk was slightly more nuanced. At first, I attempted to center the clamp on the leg, but as a result the back of the holder was half an inch or so away from the leg, which gave the entire thing too much wiggle room, and it couldn't stay upright with any weight upon it. So, I reinstalled it with the back of the holder firmly on the leg, resulting in a small part of the clamp going past the back of the leg. It's worked perfectly ever since and is sturdy, but if I could adjust the height of the clamp somehow, the product would be improved. I also wouldn't mind a slightly larger version, as certain mugs in my collection are too wide for this holder. 3.58" is the maximum diameter cup it can fit, and if your cup has a handle, it has to be less than an inch wide for the handle gap. Still, this solved a problem most of the other cup holders on Amazon can't solve, so I'm fairly happy with my purchase, and I recommend it.

Bought this so I could clamp it on my wife's chair at Church. That way she can sip water as needed. She is a bit disabled. Liked it so much I bought one for myself. She's home from rehab so she gets mine for on the little table I bought for bedside.

Instructions could have been easier. Need a screwdriver and I took mine on a retreat and didn’t have one. Also I put a piece of cork under mine to protect table top. Very sturdy and so useful to hang a small trash bag from it for small crafting scraps.
