Components for this one-of-a-kind bag were cut from a single piece of 7 oz. thick Oak Leaf carving leather. This is one of the highest grades of tooling leathers and allows for a very clean stamping of the Hogwarts School Crest. The straps and cover were burnished using a piece of smooth plate glass, all edges were beveled and smoothed, and then all components were hand dyed with a dark chestnut brown, and then coated with a layer neatsfoot oil. The body was also burnished by hand giving it a very smooth almost waxy finish. Two coats of Oxblood Red were applied over a light brown to achieve a very deep plum red effect. The two side panels were cut from a 4 oz. thick 'Stoned Oil' Side. This leather has a deep richness because it has been treated with oils, waxes and dyes in such a way that when the leather is pulled or stretched, the finish becomes lighter in the stretched areas, giving an "Old World" effect. Color returns when heat is applied, or from friction from rubbing a cloth with your hand. We use premium leather imported from the mountainous regions of Spain. Each hide is personally examined and selected to ensure the highest quality standards for beauty and durability. Using centuries-old techniques, patterns are used to cut the components from the best of the hide, then hand-burnished and wet molded into form. With solid brass tooling and hammer in hand, decorative elements are skillfully embossed into the leather before each piece is hand-rubbed with the finest vegetable tanning dyes available. The use of rich, warm colors accentuate both the beautiful natural lines of the leather and its decorative elements. Using pure cotton thread that has been fortified with natural yellow beeswax from European honeybees, the Hogwarts Crest is thoughtfully stitched using a hand powered antique “shoe cobbler” sewing machine built in 1892. Your personalized leather accessory is a piece of old-world craftsmanship that you’ll enjoy for many decades to come.
