Huge bang for the bucks
I was under the assumption that a digital recorder at this price point is only for recording intelligible speech and not much else, after receiving the product, I was surprised how much it exceeded my expectation.you can set the exact format you want it to record to, uncompressed WAV file or compressed mp3 format with multiple bitrate options to choose from, I have it set to mp3 at 192kbps and the recorded sound quality is excellent. It also does a very good job at picking up very faint and far away sound loud and clear while not making the overall volume unbearable and the built-in noise filter is able to removes the background room noise. I used it to record a meeting with about 12 participant in the room, it picked up everyone very clearly.I even tried recording sound bits with it, things like pouring water into a cup, pen writing on paper, folding paper, etc. and it managed to do a quite decent job as well after some tweaking of its settings.built quality wise, the body of the device is mostly metal, feels very sturdy in hand. button clicks are crisp and responsive. UI response is also very quick. The recorder has 8GB built-in memory, its not a removable card, but it came with USB cable that you can plug into a computer, the recorder will show up as a normal USB drive. so this is not a major issue. The only thing I wish they could improve is adding a line-in recording option. so you can record from other sound source(TV, music player, etc) or connect to an external microphone.Overall, very satisfied with the purchase.

Buy from a reputable/trustworthy company
A review for a product is only as good as the one from whom it originates. To be honest, I'm not an expert on the subject of digital voice recorders or audio in general. However, I have searched extensively (and done some research) on voice recorders while in the process of purchasing a few for myself and others. So I can best be described as an informed user of this type of product. That having been said, I would like to share my experience with you (as many of you have so kindly done for me).I'm just reporting my observations and impressions with some necessary interpretation, and I would prefer that the reader draw his own conclusions as much as possible. For those of you who are still undecided on which item to buy, you might profit by giving serious cosideration to this particular Yemenren voice recorder. The constraints of time and space force me to be succinct. So i'll stick to the main points; if you're interested, you can pursue checking on the incidental details (some of which, depending on your needs, may also be important to you). The most significant feature of a voice recorder is the voice or sound quality itself. Simply put, the sound quality here (with triple microphones) is as good as you're going to get. For this price range, to get equal sound quality is occasionally possible. You will rarely, if ever, surpass it, in my opinion. And the manufacturers took pride in their product. They surrounded their core of excellent sound, so to speak, with none but the finest of materials, as is manifested by the heft and feel of their heavy, compact recorder which was made to be durable. For the difference between $20 to $30+ (roughly), you receive an elegant looking recorder, combined with relatively expensive "accessories"(this is just my layman's term for all the things which go together with the sound), all of which are merged into a top-notch, well conceived and executed little machine. It is logically constructed and fairly easy to learn to use, compared to many others, with its large window ang big, bold buttons. The instruction manual is in well written, good English--easy to understand and apply. I would suggest, however, that you ask, as I did, for their PDF version which, with large print, is so much easier to read. Finally we come to what really sold me on this recorder. The value of this company's product was only exceeded by the value of their remarkable ability to handle customers. I had a small problem; they immediately offered to send a replacement, besides providing me with a temporary solution which worked well. That to me, in this day and age,is the exemplification of customer support at its finest. I could be wrong, but I was left with the distinct impression that these people know what they are doing; they like what they do, and they like taking care of you!If any significant new informatuion arises (for better or worse) I will not hesitate to amend this review. I must admit, and this is important, I have neither the need or the time to try out all the features of this or any recorder. Like most people, I limit myself to those few functions which I require. And I know from experience that most of the recorders I've "tested" have several features which don't work too well. This recorder is fine for me; only you can decide what's right for you. I am trying to be as objective as possible. Moreover,if this review helps a few of you, even half as much as you have helped me, I will consider it a big success! In conclusion, in my opinion, the MOST IMPORTANT factor in buying a recorder is to make certain (from the reviews, etc) that thecompany with whom you do business is trustworthy/reliable. One thing is evident from all the reviews and in my own limited experience--there are a lot of defective products out there, mixed in with the good ones. And I'm sure that the manufacturers realize that; this can happen to the best of them as well as the others. If you happen to get a problematic device, your only recourse is the people behind it. So your best security is a reputable company, one that values its customers more than individual profits!

This might have just saved my semester.
This might have just saved my semester.Being a student at Georgia Tech with a STEM course means having to take down a mountain of notes over the span of several hours in a row. Thanks to this voice recorder, now I could simply let it record as I take my notes along (I mark the time next to a topic heading, so that I know exactly where to go in the recording later to listen to the lecture on the topic). This has completely changed the way I study for the examsPro:1. Very Long recording time ( ~16-17 hrs on one charge; can easily last several days me between recharges)2. Inconspicuous - The screen turns off after a few seconds and the indicator light can be turned off, meaning that it does not cause any kind of distraction for the class as its being recorded3. Has a built in MP3 Player - This has replaced my phone as the MP3 player during the travels, has a very long battery life even at full volume, helps me conserve my phone battery4. Has a decently loud speaker inside - I was surprised at how loud it can get, can use as a speaker for music in a pinch5. Very sturdy build - Feels good in handCons:1. The speaker when at max volume, there is noticeable noise2. Storage is not expandable - Although the 8GB is plenty for recordings, I wish there was an SD card option for carrying more music.

Functional for a month, then potentially dangerous overheating
One week ago I would have given this product a five star rating. My wife had been using it to record her church's Sunday sermon and it had been doing a great job capturing pretty high quality sound. However when we went to grab the recorder this morning it was hot to the touch. I am not talking mildly warm like many devices, but almost painful to the touch. The device would not turn on and even hours after cooling down it is seemingly dead. If it had remained functional this would have been an extremely good device because we liked how it worked and the quality of the output. However it died four days after the return window had closed leaving us with a useless piece of plastic and searching for some other solution. I would suggest looking at other options. We are I guess lucky that the device did not catch on fire given how hot it became.
