This review evaluates the “Wittboy 7-In-1 Weather Station” made by ECOWITT. The product was well protected in its packaging and comes in a form fitted box. What’s in the box: One 7-in-1 Weather Station, One (1) Wi-Fi Hub, One (1) RJ-45 CAT5E network cable, One (1) AC power block, One (1) bird deterrent ring, and an owner’s manual. First impressions: Well made and easy to use. I have owned a few mechanical weather stations and they all crap out after 4-5 years; the bearings go, and things just break. This weather station has zero moving parts and everything is measured by high-tech sensors (temperature, humidity, wind direction and speed, light and UV levels as well as rainfall data) and transmitted wirelessly via a 915 MHz frequency back to the networked hub. The hub is the wireless receiver of the 915 MHz signal as well as the transmitter (via your wireless or wired LAN network) of the data to your phone or to a PWS (Personal Weather Station) internet-based weather services, such as Ecowitt Weather, Weather Underground, Weather Cloud, or Weather Observation Website. The weather station can also be used with other (or more) sensors available at extra cost from Ecowitt such as lightning strikes, soil moisture, thermo-hygrometer, pool thermometer, water leak detector, etc. The weather station requires two (2) AA batteries (Lithium recommended, not included) to power the transmitter as a backup in inclement non-sunny weather when the onboard solar panel can’t power the system. I found the weather station easy to set up, no exaggeration literally one step shy of taking it out of the box and plugging in. ProTip: Configure and test everything on your tabletop before mounting outside somewhere high up to ensure everything works as it should. Insert two new lithium AA batteries into the Weather Station and close the watertight enclosure. Download the ECOWITT APP (free) and create an account (free). Plug in your Ecowitt Hub and connect it to your network (the easiest way is a wired CAT5E RJ-45 connection to configure it first). The blue LED light on the hub will link and then go solid when connected to the weather station. My weather station is located approximately 100 feet from my hub and it connected near immediately. The hub connected via DHCP to my LAN promptly and within less than a minute after plugging everything in I was receiving live data from my weather station. I already had an account on Wunderground which I updated to reflect my new equipment. I set up my Wunderground upload key into my Ecowitt App account and voila I was transmitting live weather data to the public worldwide. Once again this was the easiest set-up of a PWS I have ever done. My past systems were always an exercise in frustration with dropped connections, non-reporting, etc. The only thing this kit doesn’t have is a real-time display for the house; you must use your cellphone. Well to me this was an issue because my 76-year-old M-I-L likes to see the weather and doesn’t use modern gizmos… I looked on Ecowitt’s website and a display unit was nearly $200 plus shipping from the manufacturer – OOOOOUCH! That would be about 2/3 of the cost of the new weather station itself. So with some research, I was able to come up with a much cheaper solution: A unused Android tablet and a $14 CDN “WHATWEATHER” APP. Works flawlessly and fully integrated with my Ecowitt weather station via my Wunderground account. Now I have an attractive display of my onsite weather. Cost-effectiveness and value: I was very satisfied with the quality of this product; it is well made, easy to set up and install, easy to use, and accurate. The system is easily expandable to incorporate additional sensors. At a current price of $260.99 (plus a $20 off coupon), I feel that this is good value for the quality and functionality delivered. In summary: The “Wittboy 7-In-1 Weather Station” made by ECOWITT is a quality product that works well, easy to use, is easily expandable, and is fairly priced. I would recommend this product without reservation. Pros 👍: ✔ Rugged, well made, good fit and finish. ✔ No moving parts. ✔ Easy to set up right out of the box. ✔ Great wireless transmission range – up to 1,000 ft unrestricted, 500 ft restricted. ✔ Powered by an integrated solar panel and backup lithium AA batteries (not included). ✔ Reports temperature, humidity, wind direction and speed, light and UV levels, and rainfall data ✔ Accurate, detailed reporting. ✔ Easy to use & understand APP ✔ Supports data reporting to internet-based PWS weather services. ✔ Fairly priced. Cons👎: ✘ None.

Was ich schon mal gut finde.

You get full access to all features with no App and no account required. Apps and Accounts are available, if that is your thing. It isn't my thing, so I m very happy that this device works without ever having jump through hoops or connect it to a computer outside of my control to work. Home Assistant has an Ecowitt iteration built in that works once you enter the correct URL and port number. Home Assistant told me to use port 8124, when port 8123 was the port number that made it work. Port 8123 is the same port number that I used in my web browser to connect to Home Assistant. I told this device to upload data to Weather Underground. This was also easy to set up and just started working with out any drama. I love that this thing has no moving parts. It seems that the Temperature accuracy seems to be better than what I would expect on a device of this class. Humidity, Solar Radiation, UV Index, and Atmospheric pressure are as accurate as you would expect in a device of this class. Between the Ultrasonic Wind sensor and the piezo rain fall sensor, this weather station has no moving parts. This is amazing because I live in a dusty part of the works, and dust screws up moving parts. Reports are that the bucket style gauges are more accurate that the piezo style. It seems that both styles have strengths and weaknesses. To me, consistency is more important to me than accuracy. Time will tell if the solid state nature of the peizo rain sensor is worth the loss in accuracy. Another cool thing is that the outside unit is solar powered with a battery backup. There is an internal capacitor that charges to about 5.6 volts during the day. This powers the outside unit all night long. This voltage is monitored. You can monitor this voltage slowly drop about a volt before the sun comes up to charge it again. Two AA Batteries will take over and power the unit if needed. Solar power is way more then enough to power my unit. For the price, this product is a winner.

Ridiculously easy to install, I plugged in hub and paired with app, then put batteries in everything and it was just "there" done, then just consisted of tightening it on the end of the pole. (bought separately) It's only been setup a few hours but sensors are quite in-depth and I purchased a separate wireless thermometer (WH31) to put in my shed, updates frequently and signal has no issues. I've paired it with my Home Assistant, to aid in temperature regulation and irrigation of lawn/plans, setup was one of the easier HA tasks as between the ecowitt app & integration all the detail required was quite clearly provided and accurate, sensors available in HA 'out the box' are as in my screenshot. also worth keeping in mind the central bit of the sensor on top appeared lop lifted/lopsided as if it may have been damaged but after checking photos of others it appears to be normal.
