My only knock is that the LED back display is hard to read in daylight. Otherwise, it performed great. I shot for four hours straight in a jungle in Jamaica on a single battery. They do get hot if you shoot continuously like I was. When they get hot, the cycle time on the battery really slows making you think the battery is getting low. It's not. The trick is to always have a spare battery with you. When you notice the slow down, pop the battery out and put the spare in. It's the battery that's getting hot. When the spare gets hot, put the original back in and just keep trading like that. I shoot models so I might shoot hundreds of pictures in an hour. If you shoot more leisurely you might never run into this. Otherwise a great product!

I really like this product for in studio when I need a flash that isn’t user friendly and really easy to move around. The flash itself is about the size of a 1/2 loaf of bread. Which makes transport that much better! I would recommend this flash to someone who is looking for a user friend flash.

Worth every penny! There is a more expensive brand I have tried but this one is just as good.

Lets get this out there, up front.... if you don't have the specific Neewer branded, specific models, trigger for this flash... you're not going to get as much out of it. To get the full TTL measuring, you're going to want Neewer's Q branded series, or a few of their select speedlites, that they have listed in their documentation. Don't be like me, and assume one of their newer flashes/triggers that are NOT specified, will still work. They will NOT. As such, I now have a couple of different triggers, strobes, and speedlites.. with the Neewer brand, all purchased in the last year... that don't operate via WiFi together. That is an extreme nuisance to me, BUT, to be fair... Neewer never said they would work together.. so that's on me, and as such, it doesn't reduce the rating... it IS something that buyers need to be aware of, however. Still, without that functionality, the product still works, as expected, using optical sync with other flashes. Depending on the studio setup, I may have anywhere from 1 to 10 light sources in place, and often, when using strobes, I need them to be reliable. I'm happy to say, this strobe works with pretty much any system I've tested it with (again.. optically). Sony, Godox, Neewer (non-wireless), and a few other offbrand flashes work in conjunction with this unit. That said, I WILL point out, since this flash won't be using TTL to get its light measurements, AND since it's such a powerful strobe (even if it's extremely compact), you're definitely going to want to get your lighting correct with it, likely dialing it back quite a bit. In a studio test, this flash constantly needed to be pulled back further for a less intense flash. Now, that SAID, in a longer room, this flash seemed to have a much better throw than many of the other strobes. I'm not sure if that's an intentional design or not, but the fact is that it seems to be configured to have a mid to long range throw, is something I like, as I normally would have to achieve that same effect with either multiple reflectors, a box, or a set of mirrored barn-doors to get a longer throw on a strobe.. and that's USUALLY with a much larger setup. Is this going to replace that same setup? No.. but it's a great 'in-between' sort of spot. One other thing that I've been finding that I REALLY like with this strobe, is that it actually brings something to light (no pun intended) that I've been missing over the last few years... it actually includes a modeling light option within it. No more do you have to worry about your model stumbling around in a dimly lit environment, nor do you have to worry about getting your focus in that same dark environment... the modeling light operates as many older strobes used to.. it remains on, just long enough to get your focus, and then turns itself off a split second before the flash operates. Since you're no longer relying on AF-lock, you don't have to worry about your model shifting their position slightly. Additionally, you don't have to rely on other lighting to see/operate by.. which may cause issues in your final images. So far, I'm pleasantly surprised with the results from this strobe. It's built solid, operates better than expected, and helps fill a gap in my gear bag, that I didn't even realize I had. I DO wish the wireless was more compatible, instead of relying on very specific models of triggers, AND I wish it had an external power option.. but for what it is.. a portable high powered strobe/flash... I can honestly say, I don't know of anything else that's as compact or as well built. Strongly recommended (even moreso, if you already have a compatible TTL trigger for it)

This is a great off camera flash for portable work. It's comparable to products from Godox and others, but is isn't a direct clone. There are some minor differences, such as control locations and trigger compatibility, but the the feature set is essentially the same. Since many or the more recent camera products from China are actually rebrands of each other, I wanted to test compatibility between my Godox XProO trigger (on Panasonic) and this flash. However, I was unable to get it to work. But it did work beautifully with the Neewer QPRO-C (on Canon R10.) Nor are the two triggers compatible either, in case you're wondering. Interoperability would have been nice since I own the AD200 as well. But that's not the case here. On the other hand, the Neewer Q3 performs every bit as well as the AD200, but for about a third less money than the Godox product. Just be aware of the trigger incompatibility in case you hope to use your existing equipment. In my case I'm fitting out a Canon R10 (APS-C) for stills use with no other Canon products. Whereas I was previously using a GH5 (MFT) for stills and video, and had the Godox equipment for that. If you're starting out fresh on Canon you could save a lot of money going with Neewer. But if you already have flashes that you're happy with, you would probably want to just get a new trigger. Also, note that the QPRO is only available for Canon at this time, and the other triggers for the Q3 flash are only available for Nikon, Canon, and Sony. So if, like me, you have Panasonic, the Q3 is not even a consideration for that camera. Overall, I'm pleased with the Neewer products on my R10, but the lack of compatibility (no available trigger) with my existing investment in Panasonic products is irksome. Other manufacturers do support Panasonic and Olympus and would probably be a better choice if you think you will ever need to work with those products (4 stars). If not, then the Neewer Q3, with an appropriate trigger, is a good way to get a great feature set at a great price. (5 stars)

First off - I did not get this item for free to write this review. This is an honest review of what I experienced using this product. I needed a portable flash system with a good battery life so I didn't need to lug around the 300W strobes. I was planning on using Nikon Speed lights as done in the past, but wanted to look at these "flash bars" instead. The Q3 would be used primarily as a fill light as the lighting in the room was adequate but left numerous shadows. I needed detail without washing out the colors. I was on the teeter totter between this Q3 and the Godox AD-200 or just using speed lights. I choose the Q3 for: 1) Price - definitely more affordable. $169 vs $479 (Speedlight), $349 (Godox Kit). I already had the speedlights, but didn't want to carry the extra battery packs and battery chargers. i brought my speedlights as back up. 2) It looked pretty rugged. 3) I had already purchased the Q-S Wireless Command Module with the Q3 (didn't arrive) Since this was a fill light, I wouldn't be using the i-TTL feature. Preparations: Charge Battery(s) night before (I had 2 Q3s) Q-S takes 2 AA batteries. I used Panasonic Eneloops 2 Light Stands with standard adapter Attached the Q3 to the included bracket. I had set the Q-S to manual, so no zoom/exposure settings needed. All adjustments would be done on the flash. So all i really needed to do was turn the exposure dial on the side of the unit. Test shots - 1) Right flashed triggered - left flash did not trigger (verified settings) 2) Manual fire triggered both flashes, but right side had a delay. (this was really lowering my confidence) 3) Manual fired triggered both flashes, but flash looks under powered. (lowering my already low confidence) 4) Checked settings again - looked fine 5) Next shot, Left side triggered, right did not. (oh man...) 6) Fired again, this time both lights triggered together and at the same intensity. (whew) 7) Fired again and it worked. (yay) I needed to attach an umbrella diffuser to the bracket. Upon inserting, the internal clip broke. Not a problem, just used a backdrop clamp clip to prevent the umbrella from sliding. But this was just the beginning of my issues. Got the lights positioned and ready to go. Test fired - and it's all good. Went through about ten cycles and the problems started all over again. Misfires, unbalanced, no trigger, and so on. My first hour using the flashes was with a 25% success rate just to get both flashes firing with same intensity. After the first hour, luck favored the fortunate as i had a failure every ten shots. Going into the last hour, I noticed that the flashes started getting stronger. In 15 minutes, the lights were literally one stop stronger. I had to stop and dial back to get the same results as before. It's as though the devices have a warm up process or maybe a break-in period. Can I use these flashes? Will i use these flashes? This was for a product shoot, and I can live with glitches. Most can be corrected in post. If your income depends on this, I would start to lean toward the Godox AD200. I have a few more product shoots coming up. I'll update my review if anything changes.

On a full battery it takes only 1/2 second to charge at 50% power. Fast. At 1/32nd it cycled as fast as I could trigger. I've yet to run down the battery, and I really like the fact that it's rechargeable. But - there's no way to attach an external power supply. For me that's a HUGE oversight - every other speedlight I own has a way to use an external power supply. To be honest, that's why it's not 5 stars. When the battery dies you have no flash for a few hours while it charges. You can get additional batteries, but at $42 each that's $$$. I'm surprised this does not use the ubiquitous Sony NP batteries. A charger is obviously included, as is a really nice carrying bag. It's designed for a stand or tripod mount. There's a 1/4-20 mounting thread on two sides - and a sweet mount is included. This can in turn be mounted on a light stand - and it also acts as a handle. This light is a solid 5 stars if not for the lack of an external power supply hookup. Use via a remote is simple and supports all your camera flash functions. You can also go full manual with the press of a couple of buttons and a dial. Heck, it's even got a low power modeling light in the head! You DO need to use a Newer trigger for wireless - a basic one is around $25. Standard trigger cables are included. There's no optical trigger. Quality feels exceptional. Covering is that rubbery-feeling plastic. A really good buy - great for a portable system, too large and heavy for mounting on a camera.

This is my first professional flash unit. I needed to get the other part which is also by Neewer the NEEWER Q-C TTL Wireless Flash Trigger. This little piece rounds this off as I did not have a trigger for this light and it was a worth while addition to this. I have to say this recycles very fast and the combo work well together. Since I only have had CHEAP all in one flash units before this was a little complicated to get working. But once you get it up and running you have a great combo. If you have had one of these you know how to sync the units and it’s really simple for people with experience. I have yet to charge it and it’s still around 50% which is pretty impressive. This unit has some weight to it and it does not have a HOT shoe on it to trigger it. This solely for hand held or mounting on a tripod or boom to help illuminate the shot. They claim it works great for daylight shooting and I have done daylight shooting with a Flash in the past with them looking at me like WHY are you using a flash in the daylight. I said because your back lit and this helps. It was night and day. I do not have any gigs lined up to use this beauty but hopefully soon I will.. Pros: Bright and quick recycle Battery Powered Clean large interface and buttons. Cons.. Cannot be mounted on a camera and triggered Needs a trigger to make it work.
