Good story
I feel this story was well researched or the author lived near Boston so much detail about the area a person can feel they are there. All the characters are great and the emotions are spot on. Cant wait to read the next book. I believe this book shoes a pure narrative in the northeast the summer before WW 2 started for America.

Nice read.
Enjoyed this book and the descriptions of Boston just before WWII are historically accurate, especially the activity in the shipyards. The characters are fairly well developed if a little naive. This is the first book in a series and I am unsure if I will continue.

Great read a real page turner.
Great read a real page turner, lot a twists and turns. it was hard to put down at times. The story was sad at times and frustrating do to so many of ups and downs in their lives. The aurhor is a great story teller, has a way with words and paints a picture so well you think your write there living with them. It had an amazing number twist and turns and when it ended one just had read the rest of the story n the next book because by then your hooked.

Very good read until the end
The final pages of the book were a disappointment. Instead of ending, the story just stopped. There was no conflict resolution. Maybe the author was trying to set us up for reading his next book in the series, but it didn't work for me. After following the characters for 300 pages , I felt let down.

Moving Story
I read this book with record speed, and really liked it. I had NO idea that immigrant Italians were considered "aliens" at the beginning of World War II; of course I knew about the Japanese. Information like this added to the book. However, there were at least two jarring iconsistences: the use of the word "Ms.," which of course was not invented until the 70s (by Gloria Steinem), and the word "pantyhose"--not invented until the 60s. Are there no efficient editors out there anymore?Otherwise, I finished the book and rushed on to Book Two. Well worth the read.

OMG!
Peyton Place migrates to Eastie! Cullen has nailed the pre war years as the North Shore edged to Pearl. Vocabulary, national predjudices, the struggles to escape the depression, the fear; he got it all. This book cannot have an end not on December Seventh. But how could a Bostonian ever use "sprinkles" as a noun in an ice cream shop? The word is Jimmies!

Highly recommend
Great story, kept my interest through the last page. The author generally has a great sense of time and place. I was glad to see there is sequel and I bought that too. One slight glitch for me though were the use of the terms ‘Ms.’ and ‘pantyhose ‘. These terms would not be in use until the 1960’s.
