Cords Let It Down
Edit 10/19/20The device stopped working. It no longer is recognized by the computer. Plugging it in and out again gets a bit of a reaction but then it fails once again. I view it as a write-off. It will not read either BD or conventional DVDs.My original review is below.********In use, this DVD appliance works well. It demands using two USB ports. I'm supposing one is for power while the other is for data. This turned out to be somewhat problematical since the reader/writer would not work at all through several one into many USB devices I have. I did have two open USB slots, but now have none left.Worse, the cords supplied and which must be used, are short vastly limiting where the drive can be physically located. In my case, it has to stand up vertically next to the CPU box since the cords are too short to allow it to rest horizontally on its little rubber feet.Usually, it works well with little noise but one time I must have put the DVD in a bit skewed. The drive read the disc perfectly but made alarming grinds and groans while doing so. I took care after this to place the discs in perfectly which was hampered by the short cords and my need to stretch to reach the drive as well as its awkward vertical orientation.Other than the inexplicable short cords, this drive performs perfectly.

Does as advertised (I think).
Bought to read Blu-ray into/thru my Win 10 computer. Except for VERY short cords (why two?) it installed easily (only one restart). First try was with a DVD, which played fine. When given a Blu-ray, the computer identified it but wouldn't play it. This is actually a Win 10 issue, as Win 10 has NO Blu-ray support. Amazon's customer support advised installing Blu-ray software from iDeer, which plays the Blu-ray content but the content on screen includes an ad to upgrade - right in the middle of the image.Does this machine play Blu-rays discs to your computer? Answer is YES.Are you going to buy this machine and watch Blu-ray movies on your computer? Answer is NO.

State of the art--if the art happens to be 20 years old.
Up-to-the-minute 1998 technology. The description says it's compatible with Mac OS. It's not. No specific instructions on how to operate, and what there was was written in pidgin English. A wash.

Does not work with Mac Catalina
Bought this for my son who was away at school. He never got it to work with his Mac. I've looked at it now that he's home, and it seems as if it is not compatible with the Mac Catalina operating system. Sadly we are past the return date. Might be fine for a PC, but if you have a Mac, I'd pass.
