Mindwise: How We Understand What Others Think, Believe, Feel

tedious
I do not remmember to be so impatient when reading a book. The contents is very interesting, but numerous examples of experiments and tests made me so nervous and it was impossible to read such a book for a relaxation before sleep. You will get many different perspectives on 'sixth sense' but your sixth sense after finishing the book will not be much better. Practically no technics for sixth sense improvement are offered. I liked the chapter about being unconcerned what other think of you the best part of the book. The chapter on sterotypes is mildy said disappointing. To wrap up: this is a book worth reading but a recommend that you take a chunk of two weeks when nothing disturbs you because this is such a tedious read not to mention small print notes.

The most useful book I have ever read
This is the first book review I have written Amazon. I was inspired to write this review because Mindwise may be the most useful book I have ever read. It cleared a cloud of confusion for me. I thought I was an expert at knowing what other people are thinking. I feel enlightened to have realized my illusion and learned a framework for developing an accurate understanding of the minds of others.I consider myself well read. I hold a BA in Philosophy, a JD, and an MBA from three prestigious universities. I practiced law for more than ten years and conducted countless depositions. Lately, I have been reading several books on personal improvement and psychology. Mindwise sets a new standard for me that will be difficult for other psychology books to meet. Malcolm Gladwell books, for example, were very enjoyable to me before but now I realize they lack the comprehensive scientific backing and concrete instruction that I found in Mindwise.I was also impressed that Professor Epley was able to create such an enjoyable read despite the frequent references to scientific studies. In fact, he makes the references to the studies the most interesting parts. I think this is because the experiments he describes are fascinating and his descriptions are written very well in plain English. His style of writing is not only readily understood but also makes the reader fond of the author. To demonstrate how strongly I recommend this book, I should mention that I bought copies of this book for my wife (my copy is riddled with underlines), my children’s teachers, and my friends. I am also creating an outline to help me remember some of the valuable instructions. If I could afford to do so, I would buy copies for everyone on earth. At a minimum, I will make sure my children learn its lessons.

A book i wont forget
At first glance i kind of thought this book would only be about winning, or getting your way. Where ever i got that idea from, i was wrong. Maybe because it was adressed as "others" and not me. Sure, you can look at it that way too. But it is not like some how to be rich in 30days or how to find the perfect partner.I have 75 books on my shelf all about self help, phycology, etc those lines. And this will be on my top 5 of books which have thaught me and helped me the most.I find it humble, funny, surprising, very insightful, and sometimes it stirs me up because how on earth have i overlooked something so obivious. It does not go into outerspace trying to explain something, with symbols, mystic or over complicated graphs and drawings. It is also about you, and not only others. It does not try to point fingers at anyone.Stays within subject.everyone will be able to read it, it has Little or no jargon (i dont mind jargon. but it is somewhat a relief to be without it) if it does it will usually be explained.I like that it gives as many answers as it asks, i hate it when all a book does is to say.. "think about it.. think about it.. what does it mean.." And not providing anything to acually think about, or start your thinking befor moving to the next page where your asked a multitude battery of questions again only to be somewhat more confused.

Be more realistic
The book is part of the authors PhD dissertation. He studied the reality of human's ability to read minds. Can you really read other's minds? You can be predicting behavior and answers of people you know as you get used to the way the are and act. Still the probability of your prediction to be true is dependent on a set of circumstances that you may not be aware of. What are these, find out in the book! This book helped me be more patient with others especially when I did not agree with their arguments or behavior thinking that they do it on purpose. By reading this book I know that if I do not understand somebody's reactions or behaviour, communication is the best way to sort everything out. This book can be a useful resource material for those who study communication, NLP, conflict management and other related areas.I would also recomend this book to those who work with people.
