In 1988 Kitty Dukakis became a household name thanks to her husband's presidential campaign. She also became a drug addict and an alcoholic. She now speaks out about her public and private life and about her own personal struggle to overcome drug and alcohol abuse. She writes about her childhood, her years as an unconventional feisty political wife, her battles against diet pills (an addiction she hid from her husband for 20 years) and alcohol. She takes us behind the scenes and shows the reader what it is really like on the national campaign trail. It shows the emotional strains of the campaign, with all its lack of privacy, which made Kitty petrified at the prospect of victory rather than defeat. It shows the pressures imposed by one of the most offensive "dirty tricks" campaigns in recent political political history. Above all, the book tells about Kitty's own personal struggle with an addiction which nearly sent her out of control.
