William Ng style decimal based caliper with excellent accuracy
Took me a second to realize this is a decimal caliper, not fractional, but I found it's much easier (and reliable) to use this instead of my digital caliper. Battery occasionally falls out of the digital, but this requires no battery and is easier to see the measurement.I still liked my digital for mm or actual fractional measurements when needed, but I've gotten used to reading this. Example- if you're between 1 and 2 inches, and between 7 and 8 10ths on the rod, with the dial pointing exactly to the 50, you'll find you're exactly 1 3/4 inches (1.75). There are, of course, delineations for 51,52, etc. (e.g. 1.751,1.752) which is where the .001" accuracy comes from.I must say, I only bought this because it appears to be the same caliper used by William Ng, one of the best no-nonsense (yet with some great dry humor) woodworkers/instructors on YouTube. Or as he would probably say, "it may not be as expensive as mine but it works just as well all the same."

Acceptable. Barely.
I bought these as a "Q&D" pair and they are acceptable, but hardly of repeatable quality. There are tiny metal(?) flakes on the inside of the dial face (like something had been rubbed/shaved off), the end back stop bar isn't perpendicular to the slide, by several degrees, the movement is stiff and the "hold" knob has crushed knurls like a pair of pliers had been used on it. It's entirely possible I got a used/RMA'd pair - or a new one that was simply very cheaply manufactured. Sure, price wise you might expect no surprise from the review of quality, but sometimes you CAN get a good deal for a low price. The calibers are within 0.001" of my more expensive pair and for what I'm going to use it for, that's enough - if it gets no worse.

Not same as pictures.
Never buy a caliper with a plastic thumbwheel mount. The plastic breaks immediately. I thought the picture showed a metal mount, but I bought two calipers and both are plastic. Luckily I can swap out my old caliper's metal thumbwheel mount.

Great value
Great buy. I didn't want to spend the extra for a digital read out but this is honestly better. The wrack and pinion mean it will be more accurate and it has great build quality. If you need to measure to the .001" then this is the best value tool for it

I use this for woodworking.
I used to do machinist work when I was in my mid 20's. Now I'm late 50's and doing woodworking as a hobby. Although I would probably not use this in a machine shop atmosphere for my woodworking projects with my grandson it MORE than fits the bill. Reasonably priced and it works well for my current needs.

Good all around caliper on a budget
It's not a Mitutoyo or Starrett, not a Browne and Sharpe but for the money, a darn good dial caliper for all around shop use. And if this one gets dropped and the jaws bent - the world is not over. Order another one.

Accurate
I've been a machinist for 30 years. Calipers wear out after ten or so years. I still like working with an analog caliper. I have a couple of Mitutoyo digital calipers. Good for when I'm working in millimeters. I can test this caliper against it. It's spot on. Takes a bit of pressure, it'll loosen up with use. They all claim to be 'shock proof' they're not. Don't drop them.

Good quality, but be aware that the scale is ...
Good quality, but be aware that the scale is 10th of an inch, not the usual fractions, so you might have to use your calculator a lot to convert back and forth. I guess that's what SAE stands for...
