The instructions were missing from the box when it arrived. Even after getting the instructions, they weren't very clear on some things. I have put together many items like this before so I had a better feeling for it. Now that it's all done, I like it alot, it fits my TV perfectly which was the priority to me. The little electric fire - space heater is ok and looks alright. I kept the back panels off, cause it seemed kind of crowded in there and I didn't want any heat to build up from the electronics. Overall I like it, but for some people with limited experience assembling something like this, I think they will find themselves frustrated at times while putting it together.

Looks great; I have some issues with construction problems
This was a bear to put together for this amateur. The instructions were reasonably clear, and I really only made one mistake (installed a certain piece upside down and had to backtrack a few steps to fix the problem. But the big issue was that there were not screw holes to guide a LOT of the wood screws. The entire back is put on with like 24 screws, and you are just supposed to use brute strength to screw them into the edges of the wood. Similarly 2 brackets to hold the electric fireplace forward, and 2 other screws to hold something together. It was VERY difficult for me to even get the screws to break the surface of the plywood, and I just had to give up when it came to putting the back on or putting in the brackets to hold the fireplace forward. I think someone better with tools than me might have used a power drill to put guide holes in for all those screws, but why weren't they there in the first place? As I say we just left the back off, which also makes it a lot simpler to deal with the many cables we have for our complex system, but it doesn't look like the picture any more.Additionally, I'm not convinced that the main latching mechanism of the entire ensemble is very strong. It's a connection style I've never seen before and I don't know how to name it, other than that there is a bolt-type piece that is encircled by something else that you screw on. It doesn't wow me with its stability and I feel like I would be more satisfied with a simple nut and bolt construction. The entire piece is stable enough that I'm not worried about it collapsing and ruining my TV, but on the other hand I plan to move it as little as humanly possible so as not to tempt fate. The instructions really fell apart on the assembly of the fireplace unit, where I puzzled for quite a while over the crystals and wood unit. I finally determined that they are mutually exclusive options, but why couldn't the instructions have illustrated that? All told, the assembly of the unit, not including the back panels and brackets that I skipped, took me about 2.5 hours. I have constructed similar furniture before but I am not an expert.Oh, and as an aside, the amount of styrofoam, etc, used to keep the product safe en route to me generated a lot of waste. Since I can't recycle styrofoam where I live and I have to pay for garbage disposal by volume, I notice these things. For me, the cost was $4 to dispose of all the waste. On the other hand, I'm glad it got to me safely and without any dings or bumps. I just wish it could've been recyclable materials. As for the utility and beauty of the finished product, it fits my heavy, large flat-screen TV great. The fake fire is really pretty and I love the space-heater feature. The shelves on either side of the center unit are large enough to fit the various devices I needed to fit, and it all looks great. It's a huge upgrade to the look and feel of my entertainment space.

Thick, sturdy, durable, nice-looking TV stand
I'm really pleased with the way that this TV stand looks. I don't think my photo does it justice because of the basement lighting and the shadows. When we move it to the area we want it, the TV will be mounted on the wall above the stand, not directly on it.In terms of setup- it really helps if you have two people. Most of it is simple, but some parts can get complicated. As another reviewer stated, there is a time where you have to push screws right into the particleboard pieces, as there are no pre-drilled holes. By not pre-drilling holes, we found that the long screws were getting pretty stripped, so we had to bring out the screwdriver to make our own pre-drilled holes. I highly recommend doing this.As you can see in the picture, we left the back panels off (as compared to the Amazon stock photo)- at the end of setting the stand up, we had no ambition to pre-drill more holes and put the backing on, so we just left those pieces off. Perhaps we'll add them in the future, but I think the unit looks really nice with or without those pieces.Other minor complications- there are no written instructions, just pictures. This isn't terrible, but there are some places where written instructions would help, like assembling the fireplace. My husband and I laughed as we tried to put in the logs and the crystals for about five minutes, because the instructions were not clear....only after coming back to look at the Amazon photo did he realize that it's one or the other--crystals or logs, not both. One thing that won't make sense unless you are currently in the process of setting it up--but trust me, this will make your life easier--look on piece "H." See the metal pieces that are sort of like hinges? My advice is to switch the screw that's currently in there to the other side. When it comes to assembling piece H and screwing in the other screw, this will save you SO MUCH frustration. If you leave it as-is, it will be really hard to get your hand/screwdriver in the corner to tighten the tiny screw. Doing this will give you tons more room and calm your anger before it happens :).Despite all those little things, I still give this TV stand 5 stars because I really like how it looks. The fireplace is a nice touch. I wish that it had a remote and possibly a timer, but oh well. It still looks nice and is easily controlled by two switches (one for the heat, one for the light). The unit as a whole is really thick, durable, and sturdy. It does not feel cheap, And again, I think that it looks really, really nice! I'd definitely recommend it!
