Product Description Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary) is a lifesaver. Whether he is pulling survivors from fiery high-rise infernos or the twisted steel of a subway collision, Gavin takes great pride in leading the heroic but often overwhelmed firefighters of New York City's Truck Company 62. Gavin is also a man drifting between sorrow and anger over a recent separation from his wife (Andrea Roth) and three kids, and recurri .com Dennis Leary snarls as naturally as most actors smile. Leary's trademark ferocity and fearlessness drive Rescue Me, a series about a team of firemen struggling with their wives and lovers in post-9/11 New York City. Tommy Gavin (Leary, No Cure for Cancer, The Ref) is the guy everyone confides in, the heart of the firehouse--but he's also an active alcoholic who rages about his wife Janet (Andrea Roth) leaving him, a man guilt-ridden and literally haunted by all the people he blames himself for failing to save. Surrounding him are a crew of vivid characters, played by a little-known but outstanding cast: Handsome lothario Franco Rivera (Daniel Sunjata) discovers he's fathered a daughter with a psychotic ex-girlfriend; Ken Shea (John Scurti) struggles to resolve his post-traumatic stress by writing poetry; Mike Siletti (Mike Lombardi), the newest guy on the team, finds love with a partner the rest of the crew finds unacceptable; Chief Jerry Reilly (Jack McGee) risks his career when he beats a gay firefighter in a bar; and several others, all multi-faceted and sharply written. Rescue Me's first season launches with a full head of steam, tackling divorce, homophobia, and male bonding in a pellmell rush. The core theme of the show, however, is how men react to stress--how anger, bragging, competition, sex, and booze pacify their jagged emotions, pulling the firefighters together and isolating them at the same time. The first eight or so episodes rip along, spiced with high-energy scenes of fires and obscene, scatological banter. The second half of the series grows a little repetitive (beatings and steamy sex lose their vigor after a while) and some storylines stretch credulity, but the characters never lose their engaging complexity. Leary, who co-created the show and co-wrote many of the episodes, barrels through each hour like a force of nature, even as Tommy's increasingly erratic behavior threatens to alienate his family and his team. This bilious fusion of vices and virtues guarantees compelling television. --Bret Fetzer

This fireman can save me any day!
When Emmy nominations came out, the only thing I knew for certain is that Denis Leary was robbed! No one on television could beat his performance in Rescue Me. His pathos is obvious, but his performance is so good that you see the heart of the character shine through it all. I seldom find humor in most comedies. This is a drama that makes me laugh out loud in each episode. The characters remind us of the flawed human beings we all know and love. It's a show not afraid to take chances, with enough character to tackle even the most sensitive subjects with humor and humanity. The entire cast fits together in a way that defines what most of us are looking for in life -- family! And they're as dysfunctional as are most families. Season One makes me hope this show is around for years to come.

He's a Walking Contradiction - Partly Truth & Partly Fiction
Takin' every wrong direction (thx Kris) - Tommy Gavin in a nutshell. A man who doesn't smoke or drink or get into fist fights is not to be trusted - Tommy is to be trusted big time. A fearless firefighter & a fearless human being. True, Tommy's a hound dog, but he doesn't do all the chasing. He has his faults, but not a mean bone in his body. Tommy Gavin's emotions are right on the surface & what makes him tick. Don't get me wrong - he can be ever so charming & is relentless in pursuit of getting his wife/kids back. Blond hair always falling in those blue eyes doesn't hurt either...

The BEST!
We have all 13 episodes on vhs and dvd and STILL I am buying this DVD that's just come out. My husband and I have watched Rescue ME over and over again and I think he has it memorized by now. We've been dying to see what the second series will bring, just can not wait! Denis Leary has brought comedy and drama together so well. We cried, we laughed and went into deep thought over this show. We've always had respect for the firemen/woman in the past, but Rescue Me has caused us to respect them even more now. It's really made me stop and think.Good job Denis leary! We will never forget!

Love this show!
What a great series! Gritty and intense. Real and unreal. Hilarious and tragic. If you're a Denis Leary fan, and you like dramas, this show is perfect. Every character became someone I almost felt like I really knew. Every episode flew by. So much is happening, but I was surprised every single time that it was over already.

Excellent show, but not for the faint-hearted...
After missing the first few seasons on cable, we finally saw an episode from Season 3, and we found it very compelling. So we bought the first season on DVD so we could catch up. We like the show very much; however, it does get a little graphic and vulgar at times. And the Denis Leary character is hard to like, unless you are pre-disposed to like his work (such as his unfairly canceled cop show "The Job" from a few years back). However, if you like shows that are a little rough around the edges (like the Sopranos, for instance), I think you would like this one.

Rescue Me... the hottest show there is
What Miami Vice was in the 80's, Rescue Me is for this decade. Rescue Me is the hottest TV show for this decade. There is nothing else that even compares to it in regards to drama, humor, and especially reaslism. Each character has tremedous depth, the cinematography is cutting edge, and the music will stay with you for a long time. I still have never seen it on TV, only on DVD. It will get ya hooked!
