An enchanting and enduring and absolutely unputdownable read
ALEX, APPROXIMATELY is the perfect anytime read. It’s sweet and sad and romantic and hilarious. It introduces a main character who is delightful and witty and quirky and a little bit fierce. It is full of clever banter, palpable chemistry, and charming mishaps. It has moments that are intense, heartbreaking, daring. It is instantly captivating, positively adorable, and absolutely unputdownable. It is a love story that promises to be unforgettable.Bailey Rydell doesn’t do direct. She isn’t called the Artful Dodger for nothing. So when she decides to move across the country to live with her dad in California, she can’t quite get around to telling Alex, her online friend-but-maybe-more.It doesn’t matter that Alex lives in the same town as her dad. Or that he wants her to come out and meet him. She just isn’t willing to take that big of a risk on someone whose real name she isn’t even sure she knows. But if she can find out who he is without him knowing about her, and he’s everything she thought he was and hoped he would be, then maybe she’ll be willing to take a chance and reveal her identity. She just needs to find him.Which turns out to be not quite as easy as she thought it would be, given what she already knows about Alex. Although the very distracting, maddening, gorgeous, Porter Roth might be to blame for her lack of progress. And for her waning interest in finding Alex at all.Jenn Bennett makes it so easy to fall in love with her novel. From the writing that immediately draws you into the story and keeps you engaged and invested throughout. To the characters you can’t help but adore. To the wildly entertaining interactions between Bailey and Porter. To the lighter moments that include a case of mistaken identity, a museum heist, an embarrassing family tradition, an unhealthy love affair with churros. To the serious moments that include heartache, the end of a friendship, family tragedies, loss. And to the notable film quotes at the beginning of each chapter that hint at what is to come.ALEX, APPROXIMATELY is an enchanting and enduring story, told from Bailey’s point of view and through her messaging with Alex, that spans the course of a summer with just a glimpse beyond. It offers substance and depth coupled with romance and humor. It has an easy flow that will make the pages fly. It is an insanely good read that is a definite must.

Read this book! *may contain spoilers*
Alex ,Approximately is now one of my favorites to add to my book collection. My favorite reads are hate turns into love and this is one of them. I fell in love with this book and I hold it close to my chest in absolute adoration. This particular piece of literature is just such a good romance read and I recommend it to all young adult readers.I fell in love with Porter, Porter is an amazing guy that you can’t hate even once, even when he ridiculed Bailey , I scoffed, but I still felt something for him. Porter is an absolutely great find and I wish I find a Porter for me. Porter is a sarcastic, adorable, charming, sort of scary kind of guy. Overall his character is wonderfully written I wish to see more of him. He brings the absolutely worst out of Bailey but hey he finally catches her eye and took her heart .Mink is adorable! She is such a relatable character, to her nervousness about intimacy ,all down to her love for oldie movies. She has a wonderful heart and I felt like I could imagine what it would be like to be in her shoes the whole novel. Mink is like a cute girlfriend that you can just adore for all eternityAll of the rest of the characters are just so lovable, except for well of course Porters “friend”.All in all, I could read this literature over and over again, I hope that this book will be read millions and millions of times, and that many people will love it as much as I do. Wonderfully written and addicting to the eye. The ending was quite sort of cheesy but it still left me wanting more. It was hard to put down the book to got to bed so I read half and still left half for the next night due to the fact that i want to savor it and yes I still did.Perfect romance read and I hold a special place in my heart for it.

Jenn Bennett - I'm a fan!
OK, I want to go out and buy all the Jenn Bennett books out there now!I did not think for a second that I would enjoy this book so much, or that I would swoon over Porter and even Bailey's romance so much! I bought this book because it sounded cute, and I was in the mood for cute. The silly cute. The cute that I would forget about almost immediately. But no, this book wasn't just cute, it was actually good!I loved the characters, the build up, the transition from hate to love (you gotta love those relationships the best *coughDarcycough*), and the character development throughout. There were moments in there that really make you melt inside and give you butterflies, something that I thought I was waaaaay past at the ripe age of 31, especially when reading about 18-19 year olds. I loved Porter, sure, at first I was all "what a jerk! I want to smack him in the face" kind of thing, but when the kinks in his armor start to show and Bailey is able to break through, you see a completely different side to him.I also really enjoyed Bailey's style, and the whole film buff thing, especially the classics. I liked her paranoia, and avoidance of things, and the reason she didn't tell online Alex that she was in the same town (which I thought were very good reasons!). I did think her methods of trying to find Alex were bizarre, but hey, I'm not complaining, given that she ended up meeting Porter.I also loved her relationship as Mink with Alex, and I loved how real Bennett made it. How Bailey started to feel like she was almost "cheating" on Alex with Porter, and how the chats and conversations online decreased more and more as Porter and Bailey got closer. The big reveal at the end was brilliant, and I was waiting for it to happen THE WHOLE TIME! I'm actually surprised it didn't happen sooner, given that her dad is always calling her Mink. I also appreciated that Bennett gave these characters a lot more depth than I had anticipated, with both of their background stories being somewhat...horrendous really. It's a mash up of You've Got Mail and Pride and Prejudice romance. A true winner in my books!

Really enjoyable easy read but token approach to diversity
There was a lot to really like about this read - it is very easy to read for a start, and I read the whole book in only a day, so it's pacey enough to keep you interested. There's a lot of really rich detail, from the location it takes place to the museum where Bailey, Grace and Porter work, to the references to all the films they love. I think a movie buff could really adore that.I also really liked the depiction of Bailey's approach to intimacy and sex, balancing the shyness about approaching a first time with wanting sex and instigating intimacy in a way that wasn't ashamed by those wants and needs - it's a really healthy approach for the sort of audience this book is written for. It also has some great depictions of conversations with the love interest on what she's willing/wanting to do, and the role model boyfriend response that you should get to that in a heterosexual relationship - again, healthy reading material for teenage girls thinking about how to approach sex with male partners. There's also a broader consideration of trust and it does well at depicting male characters who experience a full range of emotion - both genders get to be strong. The reason for the restriction to four stars is just that although the gender depictions are great for the main characters, the depictions of Grace, the black best friend, and another gay character felt tokenistic. Grace's character was more developed and got a bit of a plot of her own but it felt a little like the author checking the boxes to cover representation in what remains a very mainstream Disney-esque white-girl sort of plot.So overall, this is a really fun read with a lot of positives, particularly for your white heterosexual teenagers where it takes a great approach, but it's not getting much more intersectional than that.

Not as good as Night Owls...
I really really enjoyed Bennett’s first YA novel, Night Owls, so I was eager to read this one. However, it didn’t quite live up to NO for me. I can’t put my finger on why but here are a few things I thought about while reading:- title: I didn’t really get why the male name was used, nor the addition of ‘approximately’- speediness of romance: it didn’t seem very believable to me- ‘twist’: saw it coming a mile off. It was not shocking or surprising at all.- secondary characters didn’t seem very three-dimensional- sex scenes were totally cringey and I had to skim-read themIt was OK but nothing more, and I expected more after NO.

Average book but would recommend
I brought this Alex Approximately because I had read that it was a modern 'You've Got Mail', which I really love. I think when anything gets compared to something else it will never be the same and that is exactly what I found with this book.I did enjoy the book as it had a lot of lovely scenes between the main characters but for me this story was just ok and I didn't love it as much as I thought I was going to or wanted to. It seems to drag out in places and a few characters in the book annoyed me.Overall I would recommend this book if you are looking for a sweet, light hearted book for a summer read.

An unexpectedly engrossing read
I have been a fan of Jenn Bennett's books for several years now and don't usually read much fiction classified as "young adult", but Jenn's latest two books have been a pleasant surprise. Lately it has taken me weeks to get through books (lack of free time...) but I devoured this one in just two days! An engrossing, amusing and sweet story that should appeal to anyone who likes their romance to be a bit smarter.Really looking forward to what Jenn writes next!

Loved it!
I loved this book. I loved the movie quotes, fantastic setting, great characters. I loved the dialogue. I had a feeling the book might be a bit obvious and become very cliched however, the author made a fantastic job. I cannot recommend this book enough. Brilliant author.
