The Authoritative Source to Starting You Own Dairy
This book is an awesome reference for anyone looking to get into the dairy business! The author has literally covered ever topic you could think of and then some. This book is not an introductory title, it is a comprehensive guide to starting and running your own dairy. The book is easy to understand and follow and answers the questions you will encounter as you work towards starting your own dairy. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to start a new dairy or expand their current farm operations. Well done Gianaclis!

Very valuable information to have
We are just starting with dairy jerseys and will be getting about 10 more head this spring and summer. Trying to do everything on our property and neighbors with lease agreements & start a small but scalable milk production program, for local to state sales. This book has a TON of information needed for all of that, and more. It's never a bad thing to have a well established library and resources for any venture you take on, yet this one book can replace several.

Awesome book to dairy farmers, beginers or not.
An awesome book, easy to read and understand; and with deep knowledge not only on farming, but also on merchandising milk and dairy products directly to consumers. This book leads the reader from the mere idea of start a small dairy farm to develop an actual small dairy business, including all aspects as legal, financial, animal husbandry, dairy quality, and more. Absolutely a must read for who considers start a dairy farm; either smaller or bigger. Even dairy farmers already in the business should read it!

Decent book, lacks some detail
I'm reasonably well versed in small-scale farming (read the books, talked to the people, manage our own farm), so I wanted more detail than this book provided. I felt like each section ended right before going into the level of detail I was interested to learn. Good overview of the components of a small scale dairy, but I felt it lacked depth.

Best guide for small scale dairy planning and execution.
I have several of Ms Caldwell's books. As usual, she includes all the basics, and with her personal experience, carries you thru whatever level of planning for your small dairy, regardless of your choice of animals. If you're seriously considering any level of dairying, this is the book for you. From planning to execution, including data collection, forms and references, your success can be multiplied by using this guide.

Great up-to-date dairying information
This book is a must have for anyone who is looking for detailed information on operating a smaller dairy operation. Gianaclis Caldwell has a gift for writing easy to read how-to's for those of us who are running a farmstead business or just dreaming of one. This is the perfect companion to her first book "The Farmstead Creamery Advisor". Nowhere else can you find such solid information, from real questions to assess if you are ready to start a dairy, how other successful small dairies operate, and an invaluable list of dairy equipment suppliers. Whether you are milking cows or dairy goats there is something to gain in every chapter from her practical expertise and wisdom.

A go-to book for beginner dairy folks.
Great book! Learned a lot from it! Wish there was more line drawings of the milking machines- the text was somewhat confusing without good pix. Overall, a great book for home dairy.
