The Boxcar Children Mysteries Boxed Set #5-8 Paperback – September 1, 1991

My 7 year old son loves this book series. The age appropriate mysteries keep him captivated. We read this together, but it is above a 1st grade reading level. This earlier series (books 1-12) helps establish the characters for the more recent adaptations. What I like about these early books is that they have two strong male leads, plus a positive male role model in their grandfather. It can be challenging to find books today that celebrate boys even have a boy lead that is not mischievous or overly silly. However, because it was written in the 1942-1967 there are some terms that we no longer use, like queer, and some old time language that needs to be explained. I don’t have issue with this, and believe that is just part of understanding literature of a particular time period. Note: the more recent book releases make the girls more prominent characters and update the language, if that’s important to you.

Daughter loves these books, she read them all within a week. Very engaging for kids ages 7-9 years old. I will continue purchasing.

My grandson loved this series and wants to keep reading them.

"The Boxcar Children" is a classic "rags to riches" story about four siblings and these books take you on the family's many adventures. My students enjoy reading all about the next mystery or adventure of the children and their beloved grandfather. The price makes them an exceptional value. I highly recommend this set.

My 8 year old granddaughter had read one of the Boxcar books , so I got her this set for her birthday. She loves the series.

We love reading the boxcar children out loud. It has brought adventures to our minds and helped us imagine what it would be like to live in a lighthouse. We think the author should write a lot more books!

My son is seven and I find that I am particular about what I let him watch and read. Because he is reading so well and still young, I feel hesitant about a lot of the books available. This is a set of books I don't feel the need to read every page to make sure it's appropriate. That makes this tired out mom very happy! This is an excellent series. These books are very engaging and draws young readers in. My son is good at reading but doesn't necessarily enjoy reading. It is very difficult for me to find books that he wants to read. He tells me these books are very "exciting". He absolutely loves each one. I was very happy with this set. It comes neatly packaged in a box (as pictured). I would only buy this as a set if you get them discounted off of the list price of each book. For me, it made sense because the price is less than purchasing the books as singles. I hope you enjoy!

I loved these books as a child. I imagined scenarios sparked by these stories in my play. We worked hard together as a family. I used these as reading books for my children as I homeschooled them and passed on the same values my husband and I were both raised with. I'm homeschooling my grandson, now 8 almost 9 who has ADD. He started reading these at 7 and they have held his interest. We have all loved the stories. The character's Can-do spirit is inspiring in this day and age when children are coddled into helplessness. We'll soon be ordering the third set.
