Does this frame have a "brassy" gold finish?

It has a Satin Gold finish. Not shiny. Love this frame. Very sturdy. Elegant not gaudy.

Is there enough room to add matting?

The opening is 3.75 inches x 5.75 inches, so there is room for matting only if the dimensions of your picture are smaller.

How large is the glass? I have bought 4 frames recently, & to save costs, the manufacturers are using glass that barely covers the frame opening.

I gave this away as a gift, so I cannot measure it, but I did not see any problem with the size of the glass.
