Just the kind of hub I had been looking for!
After trying and returning one hub and asking questions to suppliers about a dozen others, I finally found one that seemed to handle the connections I was asking for: External 60 Hertz 20" HP monitor connected by Thunderbolt 3 to VGA Adapter Male to Female Converter, simultaneously download backup from my MBP to LaCie 4Tb disk or charging my MBP. They confirmed that it would handle all of these connections. It does without problems, and it was exactly the kind of hub I had been looking for. Most of the others could not handle larger than 2Tb backup disks, this one does 4Tb fine. The other one I tried did not charge my MBP nor did it connect my external monitor. There are too many hubs that will disappoint buyers unless you get this one!

Get your ports back on the MBP 2016-2017!
As most know, the Macbook Pro 2016-2017 models do not have the usual ports that we need when we are on the go. So to resolve that, you either have to buy a bunch of dongles. But now, the yinboti TB3 adapter fixes that. It uses two ports on the left side of your laptop. By doing this, it allows it to stay in place better and be more solid. When I pushed it in, the little white light turned on. I plugged my power cord into it from my dock, and it started to charge and powered up my external displays just fine (Dell 34" Ultrawide curved). I put a USB stick (256gb) into it, and it read it fine. I plugged in a 256gb micro sd card and the SD card adapter to test it both ways and it read and saw the full size fine as well. The only thing I wish it had was an ethernet jack!It is made out of aluminum and it is also painted to match the space gray on my laptop perfectly. This will come in handy when I leave town for work.Any time you remove things from it however, you will need to hold it in place while pulling them out or you will unplug the whole unit.

blocks the audio port
The hub seems to work ok for my new MacBook Pro (with the ridiculously poor keyboard). The biggest problem for me relates to the audio output jack on the side near the USB-C ports. Once the hub is plugged in, it blocks the audio output, so I cannot use my headphones. Yes, I understand I can use a pair of bluetooth ear phones, but that's yet another expense for my new MBP... which now has an array of adapters, hubs and separate keyboard rendering it totally useless as a small notebook for traveling... but I digress.

worked for less than 30 days, returned twice
I am a little nervous about how long it will last, as it is a bit sensitive to bumps and will periodically come disconnected for no apparent reason, and instantly re-connect. Generally it works well, and supports a 4k monitor over HDMI along with a Plugable docking station with another monitor.EDIT: Returned once when HDMI connection died. Returning replacement for good, same thing happened about a month later.

Best USB hub for mackbook pro
I recently upgraded to new mackbook pro 2017 but i was disappointed with lack of ports. Then i found about yinboti and all the problem was solved. Plug it into the two USB C ports and its done. U will get all your ports back. Two USB C, 2 USB port SD card reader and a HDMI port. Design is slick and the colour perfectly matches the colour of mackbook. Its made of metal unlike plastic and its very durable.

HDMI port doesn't connect well and need constant adjustment. The LED light is turned on and my macbook gets no charge. Won't buy from them again.

Very nice with one problem.
Very handy in general. The only drawback is that the USB ports won't power my removable Apple DVD/CD RW drive on my MacBook Pro, and I had to get an Apple "dangly" attachment to use with that drive.
