Great for dogs' coats and skin...and so easy to dispense
My main reason for using salmon oil is for my dogs' skin and coats; but I also think it's important for the longer term benefits to heart, brain, and joints. A couple of years ago, I switched my dogs from the human version of Nordic Naturals fish oil and began using the easier feeding solution of salmon oil in a pump dispenser. The pump dispensers make feeding time a breeze. No measuring spoons to clean...you simply pump the number of "squirts" that are recommended for the weight of your dog(s) directly onto their food. Added plus...my dogs love the taste! This Alaskan Salmon Oil is extracted from wild Alaskan salmon and is tested for and considered safe from harmful metals and toxins. It has rosemary extract included as a natural fat preservative. There's been some concern about the use of rosemary in dog products because of the risk of seizure. Most of what I've studied seems to indicate that it is really only a concern for dogs which are already seizure-prone though.I've also used a couple of other high-quality salmon oil brands...Grizzly Salmon Oil and Alaskan Bear Treats. I notice very little difference in the three brands so I usually buy whichever brand has a 32 oz pump dispenser available on Amazon Prime for the best price. The only problem with alternating between brands is that they all have a different dosage so I have to try to remember exactly how many squirts each brand recommends. This particular brand, Alaskan Salmon Oil, recommends 1 squirt for every 10 pounds of dog weight. The amount of oil dispensed varies also depending upon the bottle that each brand uses. The Alaskan Salmon Oil and the Alaskan Bear Treats recommend dosages of significantly more oil. As a result, there is noticeably more orange fish oil swimming in their food. No complaints from my two, though. It does have a strong fishy smell; but we've grown accustomed to "fish breath." All part of doggy love. The improvement in my dogs' skin and coats is remarkable. They both have gorgeous, shiny coats and non-itchy skin. With the salmon oil added to their diets, it's very important to brush your dog once or twice a week, particularly if they're a long-haired breed. Just a quick brush will help to distribute the extra oil throughout your dog's fur.

Been using for years. Great skin and coat.
My Boston Terriers because we're in FL tend to have dry skin from the AC. No longer an issue since we started adding to their kibble about 6 years ago. Highly recommend, start off with just a few drops and go up to 2 tsp for a 15 to 40 pound dog. Does stink like salmon oil but does not cause them to have fishy bad breath, I don't know how, but it just doesn't and neither do their faces stink of fish.

Who Would Ever Guess Dogs Love This
Maybe not all dogs, but mine sure does . . . I guess because it smells strong and probably tastes the same. I originally got this to help with her itchy skin and for the other health benefits of fish oil. After many months of using, not sure if it has helped with her scratching, the vet says this could be more of habit or even actually a way of communication. Say for example to let you know she wants to go out, or that she is ready to go for a walk (Border Collies are known to be a bit bossy (can you still use the word bossy when talking about a girl Border Collie)).Even so it has done wonders for her coat, it is so shinny, and now if I don't put it on her food, she won't eat. The health benefits of salmon fish oil are well known. I was attracted to this because this oil comes from wild salmon in Alaska where the water is clean and cold. Both pluses as far as fish oil goes. I just saw a National Geographic special on ocean fish farms in Canada. They are gross, fortunately, in Alaska they are banned. Basically, they build cages out of nets and put them in the ocean and fill them with fish (who knew right?).All I know is my dog loves it and its good for her too.

I got this product for my two ferrets because it helps make their coat soft and silky and they love it as a treat (supposedly) O
Reaction was about what I expected. I got this product for my two ferrets because it helps make their coat soft and silky and they love it as a treat (supposedly) One of my ferrets loved it the other one (who is picky anyway) tasted it but didn't seem impressed. She will eat it but isn't enthusiastic about it so it's more a supplement in her food rather than a treat. I also put some on my cats food (she loves tuna and salmon) but seemed confused by this. She seemed to like the smell but acted somewhat like my picky ferret... I will keep using it and would still recommend it as it is still good for them but not as much of a "treat" as I had hoped. Maybe once they get used to it it will change. I will update review if this is the case. As for smell, it is strong but we keep it in our bedroom out of reach and it doesn't smell up the room or anything. Only really smell it if I put my nose near it and I have a fairly sensitive nose.

Alaska Naturals Salmon Oil for Coat care and Skin Problems like alopecia
Great stuff BUT you can get a 16 OZ bottle at walmart for nearly the same price as this 8 oz bottle. Remember after unsealing it should be refrigerated and is only good for 30 days. I wish I could buy the largest size but I don't want it to spoil. It's worked wonders for my red Pit Bull rescue who was turned into a high kill shelter and because he had alopecia. He was "rescue only" and was to be put down within days. Those rescue groups do some incredible work. The salmon oil did wonders for his hair loss and pink and red irritated areas. I'll probably use two to three squirts in his food forever. Great Stuff!! I couldn't be happier with this product. ****The last two bottles I purchased leaked sadly. Eventhough they are in a sealed bag, they still leaked. I ended up with about half and it's a mess to clean. Thank goodness I can see the oil on the shipping box. I open it outside and walk it straight to the trash then wash the bottle thoroughly to avoid the fish smell then refrigerate.*****

Love it so far ...
We have been using this for a few weeks now when Mackenzie has Fish kibble for dinner (her favourite). This is the third or fourth type of Salmon oil we have tried. She seems to like them all but let's not fool ourselves here, price is a definite factor. This has been easier on our pocketbook than most of the others. It seems to help keep her coat shiny and soft and keep her in good mental shape. I take Omega 3 Krill Oil soft gels every day so I guess that's the human equivalent !

Additional charge
Love the product but was not expecting a Canada Border ($13.15) charge - makes this product expensive to purchase.
