Good But Pretty Simple For The Price
Disclosure: This was sent to me for free via the Vine program. I did not receive monetary compensation to write this review, just the product itself.I love trying new food. Any ethnicity, any culture, any time. But what food I love trying the MOST is "convenience" foods of cultures because, I find, they cut to the quick of what the cuisine is all about. Bahn mis, tteokbokki, ramen, shashlik, you name it: street food / "convenience" food is where it's at. So it should come as no surprise that, when I was given the chance to try a microwave and eat convenience food, I'd be all over it. And I was. I put in for the OH! Bap immediately, let my salivary glands and my tummy work overtime, and waited for it to show up.It showed up as just a cup in a box, which I was fine with. Opening the cup, you find a simple mixture: a round of pre-cooked rice and a packet of sauce. I'd had O'Foods rice before and it's a good rice so I knew that was going to be fine but the sauce...the sauce I was the most curious about. I'm not as well versed in Korean food as I'd like to be so this was a mystery to me. I followed the directions to prepare it (I microwaved the rice first, put it into the cup, added the sauce, and mixed). The added spoon is a nice touch, I will give it that. Makes it easy for people on the go and it's a good, sturdy spoon. Using said spoon, I dug in. And the flavor was pretty dang good! It wasn't as spicy as I expected it to be, it was rich with umami and a light...bean flavor I guess is the best way to put it. It was everything it said on the package. I devoured it quickly and found myself satiated and able to get back to work writing. All told, this stuff is good. It's plain though. There's nothing IN the sauce, it's just a sauce with a container of rice. The label has a big ol' bowl of rice with a black sauce studded with vegetables and other add-ons but you won't get that with this. It's just a sauce packet and your rice and it's up to YOU to add other stuff. Which is a shame considering the price. For $7, I was hoping it'd be more...substantial. I liked the simplicity of it, don't get me wrong, but if you want to turn this into a meal, you're gonna need to haul a lot of stuff along with it to the break room at work or to the kitchen table at home. At best, this is a snack or light meal, and at $7, that's a bit too expensive for me, even with how good it was. I cautiously recommend it as a treat or as a "base" for really spreading your add-on wings and doing it up right because, as is, it's just too much for a nosh.

Light snack
I don't see the point of this product unless you're supposed to each it with something else. It was not to my taste, but I appreciated the opportunity to try something different.

I like it. Only needed half the sauce.
This is a convenient rice dish that you can cook in the microwave or on the stove. You have your paper cup, your rice in a sealed container, your sauce mix, and a spoon. I don't use microwaves, so I made mine on the stove. The directions say to boil it for 10 minutes, but mine was warm enough after about 5. I only needed about half of the sauce, and I could have used the other half on another meal. I thought it was a very good amount of flavor in just half a packet so you could stretch it out if you would like. I thought it was good, but it's not a huge meal. The paper cup that's meant to hold it is much larger larger for the amount you get, but it needs to be since everything is individually packaged before you cook it. I thought it was good.

Just okay.
The product is simple to make and the instructions are easy to follow. The only issue I had with the instructions is that the container for the rice contains instructions for cooking the rice itself if you want to do the rice itself and not want to mix in the black bean packet. Honestly, it seems the product reuses another product for the rice.Eating it, however, I found it to be...okay. I wasn't disgusted by the taste, but I didn't enjoy it either. I was would say it is bland. I ultimately ended up tossing most of it since I wasn't going to save it for later. It also has a smell similar to coffee, which I am not a fan of.

WARNING: NOT GLUTEN FREE
I have celiac disease and will become quite sick if I eat gluten (a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye). It causes my immune system to attack my digestive tract and I'll get severely ill.I usually don't order food products unless there's a photo of the ingredients that I can read myself, but I went ahead and ordered this item without an ingredient listing because of two reasons:1. The product description said "Material Feature Gluten Free"2. The single product photo shows what appears to be a GF (gluten free) symbol on the lidThankfully I always double check ingredients before I eat something new.- This product lists wheat twice in the ingredients list, and underneath that it has a highlighted warning that it contains wheat (photo provided).- The lid does not have the same symbols as single the product photo so I can't verify what that is in the product photo since the labels are not the same (photo provided). This product might taste great and be wonderful for people without celiac disease but, because of the seriousness of this issue, I'm giving it one star to bring attention to the issue (and alert other consumers who have celiac disease or are gluten intolerant).
