It can be used in any room. It is advisable to use in any areas where you will spend time working, crafting etc. It can be used in ceiling fixtures or lamp fixtures but check the bulb size first 16cm height and 6cm width.

Is it too bright for normal room lighting and can I use a dimmer

Many of our users do use instead of normal room lighting. We do however strongly not using during the evening due to the brightness which is not good for your circadium rhythm. The bulb cannot be used with a dimmer.
