Need a monitor arm? BUY THIS. Job done.
I bought this after my previous monitor arm (Which was the first item that shows up when you search "Monitor Arm" on Amazon) which cost a reasonable £29.99 sheared in half dropping my monitor after only 18 months of use. The monitor wasnt even out of the rated weight and thankfully wasn't damaged, but a close call. I saw a Linus Tech Tips link for this arm and despite being a little put of by the price could see it was an excellent product and found a YouTube video on it that showed me the product. I wasn't wrong. Really Really happy with this! Very easy to assemble one piece has the tall pole attached to a desk clamp which I clamped to the table (It does include other optiona than the clamp if you want to drill and bolt this through the desk but can't see a need). Then another arm which is screwless slots onto that pole in seconds. Then I screwed my monitor onto the third arm with the 4 Vesa mounting screws and slipped that onto the arms and that was it. Done. You can adjust a silver ring on the tall pole with an allen key to move the bracket higher or lower on the pole and adjust the tension so your monitor is moveable but doesn't sag with a second allen key. Took us 10 minutes. Pros: Excellent Range of Movement best I've seen up and down quite high 360 rotation if your cables allow. Exceptionally sturdy and heavy build quality, will support almost any modern monitor weights you can throw at it. Good looking in Chrome and black. Easy assembly in 10 to 30 mins for a partially diasbled person with one helper. Range of mounting options included 4 thumbscrews to mount the screen nice touch if you want to remove screen often or normal screws for permanent use or more security. Cons: Potentially cost prohibitive for some people but you really do get what you pay for and if you can save or stretch for it, it really is worth it. Summary: An excellent design and high quality item which is a rarity amongst a sea of mass produced rubbish. Maybe the price should be a tiny bit lower but considering the sheer weight of metal used and the design time they must have put into it to keep it sleek yet functional and everything included is still worth it. If you need a monitor arm don't make my mistake with a cheaper option unless say you had a 15" LCD that weighs the same as a feather or don't value your screen and buy this one. Hope it helps!

Get the Tall Pole LX!
Don't get the smaller one, even if you're not a tall person. The Tall Pole LX is much sturdier, with a larger base and a bigger and nicer pole. It is superior in every way and a much better investment for only a small extra cost (I have both the normal LX and the Tall Pole LX so I have compared both). You can use the Tall Pole LX on a standing desk for a wide range of movement and taller people can use it too. Get the tall pole!

Not cheap but worth every penny
I have the Wacom Flexarm, which was made in collaboration with Ergotron, so I'm aware of the quality this brand provides with their products. Having said that, it's not cheap and so I initially bought a £30 equivalent. Needless to say, it was cheap, didn't hold the monitor up at a decent height and was sent back within a day. This arrived the quality was just mindblowing. Actual metal parts as opposed to cheap plastic. It puts my Wacom monitor arm to shame in terms of how high it goes. Yes, it's over £140 for a monitor arm but you truly do get what you pay for.

A top quality monitor arm, at a price to match; in retrospect, it's hard to justify spending so much on it.
I bought this arm to mount my 40" Philips 4065UC monitor. It's a big screen and fairly heavy, so I wanted a good quality arm to mount it on. There's no doubt that the Ergotron is exactly that. It's fairly easy to set up, looks incredibly substantial and is clearly of superior quality. I have no concerns about its ability to reliably hold the screen. Once mounted, the screen is easy to adjust, featuring swivel, rotate and tilt mechanisms that can all be activated with a minimum of pressure. It's very handy having a screen on an arm like this, especially when you have multiple monitors as I do. There's no doubt that this is the Mercedes of monitor arms. So why only four stars? Well, I regret spending so much on it. Yes it's substantial and solid, and looks like a top quality device. But once installed you'll never actually see it, so its external apperance is irrelevant, except for reassuring you when you first get it out of the packaging and set it up. I have bought a couple of other monitor arms since the Ergotron, and the others I purchased were a fraction of this price. They didn't look as good, they were perhaps a little more fiddly to set up, but looking back at it now I really can't justify spending over £125 on this when there are other products available that do basically the same job for a third or even a quarter of that price. If you have a particularly expensive screen and want absolute assurance that you've got the best arm available, and money isn't really an issue, then definitely buy the Ergotron. For everyone else, I'd strongly suggest looking at cheaper alternatives. They might take you an extra 30 minutes to set up, and won't give you that warm fuzzy 'quality' feeling during the hour you can actually see them, but most of them will do a fine job of mounting your monitor and providing the standard adjustments, and you'll save a significant amount of money. Maybe the best use of this Ergotron is as a gift - if I was giving someone an arm for a birthday or Christmas, then the extra feeling of quality would definitely be warranted. For myself though, I'll definitely not be spending so much again.

I have had the previous version of this mount for more than 6 years and it has never let me down. I bought this for a second monitor and I am glad to say the quality is still there. This is a versatile, well built and good looking desk mount. It feels solid even with an extra extension arm added. As a side note the underside covers on the extension arms are a bit tricky to put back into place when you channel several cables in them. Another side note, the pole/ extensions are compatible with other ergotron products like the laptop holder. This is one of those rices that will always be in your setup no matter how many computers/monitors you blow through.

This mount is perfect for what I bought it for - having a lot of versatile movement of my monitor, so that it can be adjusted frequently. This mount is not a set-and-leave type, where you need to set it once and stick with that location. You can adjust it as much as you want, and it holds position. The only adjustment that may take some time to make is the position of the arm on the pole, because a ring underneath the arm must be adjusted to maintain the height position. However, the height range without adjusting the arm is already pretty significant, and I do not see that it would be necessary to adjust the arm height on the pole very often. Adjustments are smooth and they stick - I do not have problems with the monitor falling out of position after I adjust it. The other reason that I picked this particular unit (besides the ability to adjust frequently and easily) is the tall pole. This provides a larger range of movement, and if your monitor is on the upper end of the rated size scale, you will probably need it. I was really happy about this choice, and although I have not really needed that extra height yet, I am really happy that I have the potential for it. When the mount arrived in the box, my first impression was that the parts were all solid and well-made, heavy construction. Assembly was really easy (no-brainer) and when put together, it was clear that the quality construction was as solid as I thought, and all parts worked smoothly together and fit easily. Ergotron did not stinge on any of the parts - they are all solid, good quality. I mounted it to the desk with the clamp, instead of drilling holes, because the desk will be moved to a new apartment soon, and I want to have flexibility of placement in the new place. The clamp provided good stability for my monitor, and I have had no problems with vibrations or the clamp slipping while I am adjusting. I may leave it in the clamp even after moving, since I have not had any problems with it. I was torn about purchasing the dual mount so that I could have the flexibility of setting up dual monitors in the future, but ultimately decided not to. Now that I have the mount, I realize that I can buy the same mount again and mount both arms on a single pole to achieve the same setup as the dual mount system. Or I can set the mounts side by side. So, I feel I made the right choice and I am not limited. Overall summary: highly recommend! Pros: quality parts, solid construction, easy assembly, easy adjustment, adjustments hold after you make them, extra height range with tall pole, choice between clamp or through-desk mounting, rotates freely between portrait and landscape viewing (fun fact - this rotational direction is not limited at all except by your cables that will wind up if you continue to rotate - you could keep rotating indefinitely if your monitor were cordless). Cons: takes a little more time to adjust the height position of the arm on the pole (this is no big deal for me). Also, having a wall directly behind the mount will limit movement away from you to some degree, because the arm will be restricted by the wall - you will not be able to retract it as far against the wall as you would if the desk were free-standing. However, it seems obvious that you will not be able to achieve the full range of movement if there are obstructions.
