Practical Lock Picking: A Physical Penetration Tester's Training Guide

Indispensable, with wide appeal
Honestly, it's a brilliantly clear manual. It explains the techniques and the underlying logics of lockpicking so transparently and simply that anyone can understand it - though being able to do it is another matter, since it involves a lot of patience and a delicate touch. He describes a variety of tools and approaches, not just the 'best' or quickest way of doing things, covering the advantages and disadvantages of all methods. He cites real-world experience (the author is a security consultant and is often paid to perform covert intrusion tests for companies) and explains the most common weak points in security systems and locks. I found this invaluable in reassessing my own security and habits. That's the underlying value of this book, and why I'd recommend it not just to lockpicking geeks but to anyone with any responsibility at all - it makes you more aware of security. You'll begin to grasp how locks are usually breached, where your home's or business' weak points are, and you'll learn to pay more for certain kinds of locks and totally avoid others based on the technologies inside them. Even if you never plan to buy a lockpick, it's a really illuminating, enjoyable read that lays bare a murky and little-understood aspect of security that should matter to all of us.

Excellent book for pins, wafers... but NO lever locks!
This is a very well illustrated and written book, I couldn't find fault with it...as far as it goes. It contains massive detail on tumbler/pin and wafer locks. However please note that this book seems to have been written for the U.S. market and has NO information on mortice locks/lever locks. To quote: "A handful of other designs (of lock) are prevalent in certain international regions. Lever locks, for example, are an older design originating in the 17th century with keys that tend to be larger and their operation more cumbersome than more recent designs. These are a common sight in Europe, central Asia and parts of South America." That's it for lever locks. To summarise, a superb book for pin and wafer locks, but no use for lever locks.

Great lock picking book
This is the best lock picking book I've read. Great, clear, concise drawings and explanations and it covers a lot. I'm about 60% in and my understanding of locks is so much better than it was. I'm using a practice lock that I can re-pin as I'm reading it to help consolidate the theory by applying it and it helps massively. Highly recommended.

You won't be disappointed
This just has to be THE go-to book for all things lock-picking - so absorbing and easy to read and understand, with excellent descriptions and pictures, it is difficult to put down - there are other cheaper books available but they mostly prove the old adage 'you get what you pay for' -if you only buy one book to learn about locks and lock picking, make it this one and you won't be disappointed - worth every penny - oh and also, in case it isn't clear, I think it is rather good

Great introduction to pin and wafer locks.
A great introduction to pin and wafer locks. Loads of details and considerations often skipped over in some of the YouTube tutorials. I like the descriptions and illustrations as they do convey the intended message. If I had to find fault: when the text refers to a diagram, it is almost never a glance across the two pages facing you - they are, more often than not, overleaf. Now that I've mentioned it, it'll drive you crazy too!

Must Buy!
I am still reading through it very carefully - mostly happy with the book as its very detailed in the intricacies with lock picking and especially the practical aspects. I am still a newbie and struggling. Lots of youtube videos give you the big picture and main key points in lock picking -- but this book really takes it deep and hopefully I will be able to get to be proficient at some point. Highly highly recommend this book.

A great introduction for anyone learning lock picking
This book explains in fine detail the way locks work. The copious illustrations make it easy to understand the mechanisms inside the lock which hold it shut, and what needs to be done to open the lock without a key. I have not yet read the book completely, but I have read enough to know that this book is exactly what I need to learn what I previously thought of as a "black art." Highly recommended.

Una guia para pruebas
Las guías para test de penetración son útiles porque ayudan a centrar las pruebas. Ésta es una excelente guía de pruebas.
