It worked for me - eventually
Our garage was home to a family of mice judging from the droppings so we needed something to encourage them to leave. I have wild bird seed in the area and this was a regular target for the little so and so's. When the gadget arrived I read through the instructions that explained the various controls (including a night light - presumably not for the mice to use!) and advising that if the mice had young ones they would not move until they had matured. This is an update three years after purchase. We haven't had any instances of mice nesting in our garage just an odd occasion where there was evidence of them gnawing some holes in a paper sack which had a few remnants of wild bird seed. As long as you make sure any food source (i.e. Bird seed) is in a suitable container this device seems to work well, I occasionally check the audible test button to make sure it's working. I sited the device in a socket above my garage work top having cleared the vicinity of droppings and opposite where bird seed is kept. Result (and why I rated 5 stars) - the next morning there were no droppings and there has been no sign of mouse activity since, it has now been 6 days since the PestBye was in situ and so far it has kept the area - as far as I can see, free from infestation. The device itself appears well made, I particularly like the test button otherwise how would you know if it was not working? And LED's give a reasuring blink to let you know it's 'on guard'. I don't know why some people find it doesn't work maybe it's down to the siting or perhaps some mice are more susceptable than others but whatever it has to be better than killing them. A month on and a close encounter with Roger the rodent later and all is well....... Except! I hadn't realised Roger and family had taken up residence in a box of grass seed, so after making this discovery and removing box, family (minus Roger) to a carefully chosen location in the garden (not my garden, Hee, hee)I waited to see what would happen. After a couple of sightings of a lonely looking Roger he has left and there are no signs of him anywhere so I think the Pest-Bye is working as it seems to make the area uncomfortable for the mice to remain in - as long as a. all traces of food are secured and b. the family are grown and ready to leave their nest. PS Roger and family have now been re-housed by a kind neighbour :)

Misleading description
This pest repeller is advertised on the basis that it will protect a 4 bed house. We have a problem with mice or, most likely, rats scurrying within the wall cavities and loft areas within the house, i.e. behind solid walls and ceilings. Being a terraced house with interconnecting cavities and lofts, the rodents have spread to adjacent properties. The instructions acknowledge that the ultrasound function, the only feature of this device which has any, albeit limited, credibility, will only be effective if it is located in the same room as the pest, it wont travel through solid objects. Rodents will remain comfortable behind their ultrasound proofed, inaccessible to humans, living quarters. So no full house cover here then. The electro-magnetic interference feature is scientifically regarded as being highly unlikely to be effective, and remains unproven in any properly conducted field tests. The instructions note that the manufacturers believe that the elector magnetic waves in the house wiring (providing they are within 3 feet of the wires) creates an environment which prevents rodents nesting and drives them out of the house. I have no intention of leaving my uninvited visitors to enjoy the peace and quiet of my home, setting up their own love nests within its walls and free to breed outside the 3 foot electro-magnetic exclusion zone. I will try and find out how they've got into the house, order a pack of rat traps and poison to exterminate them and make sure there are no unprotected areas of the house where they could get in again. Currently, inspection has revealed that the most likely way they got in was through a worn and damaged redundant sewage pipe beneath the house, unused since our kitchen was extended more than 25 years ago. I have returned the pest repeller, which was not a good idea, and put the refund towards paying for the pipe to be repaired.

Works. Keep in main mouse visiting / entering area. No impact on powerline ethernet performance. Also setting for spiders.
This works! We have had the device for nine weeks now. Mice vanished from sight immediately. Bait has remained untouched. The user manual mentioned that baby mice will only leave their nest once they're ready to move. We did hear some baby mice squeals from under the floorboards for about a week and nothing since then. I can confirm the manual's advice to put the device in the room where mice are most likely to enter / visit. After a few mouse-free weeks with the device plugged in a socket in our open-plan ground floor, I tested the device plugged into a socket in the utility cupboard (also ground floor) to save an accessible socket in the main living space. Result: mouse sighting within a day. It appears that the audible (for mice) high frequency sound is more important than the electromagnetic pulses the device sends through the house's electricity wiring. Perhaps useful for some: the device also has a sound frequency aimed at spiders and insects. You need to choose between the rodent sound frequency and the spider frequency. That said, we have seen a decline in spiders as well, but that may be a seasonal thing. (Got this mid-October in an unusually active spider season.) We also use ethernet powerline adapters (all TP-LINK) throughout the house and have - through our usage, not measurement - not noticed any impact on internet performance or connectivity from the electromagnetic pulses. The device is plugged into the wall right next to the powerline adapter with the inbound LAN cable from the router.

Appears to work in our case, but on the basis of fairly limited evidence.
It is hard to be sure about the efficacy of this product but it seems to be working in our case. We started to hear intermittent evidence of a visitor (light scratching from under the floorboards in the living room for about five to ten minutes each time) a week or so after moving into our new home recently. On the third occasion we decided we needed to investigate pest control. After purchasing this product, the scratching ceased for a few days. However, we could hear the whine the device emitted very clearly and it proved too intrusive for our liking. Primrose customer support indicated this sounded like a faulty unit so we returned it to Amazon for a replacement. In the few days between switching off the noisy unit and installing the replacement (same model, but it has been much quieter) the scratching returned (same location). After installing the replacement unit we have only heard evidence of a visitor once; this time above the living room ceiling (instead of below the floor boards) and the nose was movement rather than scratching. Also it only lasted a minute or two instead of five-to-ten minutes. Evidence that it works: At least four visits in a handful of days while the device wasn't operating. Scratching in same location with no apparent urgency to move on. Evidence that it doesn't work: One visit in over a month while the device has been operating. However, this was in a slightly different location (above rather than below the living room), was much briefer than previous visits, and was the sound of 'frantic' movement rather than casual nibbling. It is difficult to confirm that the deterrent has any particular effect due to the limited window in which it has been tested. Our problem was hardly an extensive infestation to start with (just occasional evidence of a single rodent) and the reduction in visits could conceivably be coincidental. However, evidence from the past two months appears to indicate that it does have at least some kind of deterrent effect in our particular circumstances. I will try and update the review if this subsequently transpires not to be the case.

Is it working?
A two-month siege by mice because of neighbours building work again, had me scrambling to use everything in the anti-pest arsenal I could get my hands on. Though I got this just as the mouse issue was resolved, I plugged it in upstairs in a central location. Mouse hole located and filled and no issues since. I believe I have had mice downstairs as I have laid poison and that has gone, but no other traces and no problems upstairs. I can’t be sure if it is working but I suppose peace of mind helps. Moths it does nothing and I have seen at least one large spider happily sitting next to it with no problem, But I can see the light flashing and hear the tiny sounds it makes so I leave it on permanently. So it may or not work, it depends if you have a serious enough pest issue and want to try it. Remember it will need a socket to be used and if it’s a semi-permanent thing and a good strategic placement. I have left it in and on permanently so that any mouse that may be thinking of coming here doesn’t but I don’t think this worked for me, and after seeds, poisons, spring traps and this all failed, only a glue trap finally got rid of the worst mouse problem this house has ever had in 50 years. I bought this for £19.95 in September 2013 and is selling for £22.99 in September 2016.

Seems to have done the trick
This seems to have done the trick. I saw a single mouse darting across the basement kitchen floor late one night last October (it is now July). No evidence of any infestation, no food supplies on offer. Mouse, you were not welcome in my house, despite my usual hospitality. Eek. Bought myself one of these devices, set it the mouse/rodent setting. Also bought peppermint oil and saturated cotton wall pads which I left dotted around the kitchen floor (also off Amazon. Waiting for it to be delivered, I used pure citronella oil BPC as it also apparently disturbs little mice noses). Hey presto, no more mouse. About 5 weeks ago, again late at night, I thought I saw some movement along the kitchen skirting board, but I think it was actually a lock of hair which fell in front of my eyeline. A friend had dropped off some blue mouse killer food grains which they use to great effect in their house in the country. So, I decided to put down some blue mouse food as a precaution for the, probably imaginary, mouse. One sachet split between four petri dishes strategically placed along the walls/corners of the kitchen. No bite of this bait. Not even one grain: obvious as Mouse 2 was imaginary. Had there been others, they would surely have feasted on this free smorgasbord? Off topic, but one of my colleagues had a mouse in her kitchen (she blamed the untidy ex-boyfriend) and it was once seen dragging the foil case off a custard tart along the floor. Yuk.

This device works 100 Percent. Very impressed.
Nearly two months ago, scratching and gnawing sounds started appearing. There is a long stretch of terraced/detached properties and even turns 45 degrees via a purpose archway leading to a communal car-park. This device works, I tell you all now 100 percent. I got woke up between 2.00AM and 4.00AM due to increased knocking, scratching and gnawing sounds over the last 2 weeks. I bought a different PestBye model 2 months ago and decided to just use evenings and one full weekend. It's not enough. Up to 4 weeks continuous switch-on is what's recommended. The activity died away 2 months ago, but came back big time 2 weeks ago. Rats or mice in the walls and ceiling. My bedroom wall directly adjacent to my neighbours was absolutely riddled with walking, running, scratching, metal duct clanging, chewing...you name it. There was one large rodent causing the knocking noises, near to banging level, mixed with small rodent's. I had enough and nearly drove me mad. I definitely called it to have my first purchase plugged into the bedroom with light off, low frequency, continuous, and varied (not fixed). I strongly feel the varied setting will catch young and older/larger rodents attention. Within 48 hours, bedroom is clear. I was so impressed, I purchased this model to have in the lounge. Well....it's 2 weeks and all the noises are gone, apart from one rodent which sounds medium size in the bedroom ceiling. Lol...few taps on the ceiling I frightened the life out of it. The activity within the bedroom and lounge walls has gone, and the 1st device was directly plugged into the bedroom wall where 100 percent of activity was happening. Strangely the lounge wall, on the same side as the bedroom wall, activity has stopped there also. This problem did not start at my door, but many properties away. Rodent's got in climbing gutters into neighbouring properties, and eventually via breeze-blocks/ ductwork. I'm shocked that the gaps aren't sealed between different properties. Rat/mice droppings found six houses away in the loft. 2 weeks ago, white round polystyrene like pellets found all over my front and back garden. Probably wall insulation chewed to shreds, the stuff meant to keep me warm during winter....now main course for these rodents. As I said....the problem did not start at my home but at another neighbours home many doors away. Lady neighbour has reported issue to the Council. £35.00 per loft. No point doing that, unless entire Street agrees to let Pest Control wing of the Council gain access to everyone’s home, otherwise the issue hasn't been fully addressed. I am at the very end of the the row of properties, and the rodents must have legged it back towards where the issue started. Now, not my problem due to these very handy devices. I recommend 2 devices continuously on, and in the rooms where the noise issues are going on. Two more weeks to go and hope they don't come back, or else. My home must be radiated like a Christmas Tree by now. Thank you.

Not the final solution...
I purchased the product and have had it plugged in my kitchen for four weeks now (another site selling the same product says it could take up to 60 days to see final results). Whilst I have noticed sparce mice activity since plugging it in, they still pass through from time to time. Again, maybe I'm not being patient and I need to wait a little longer. I will not trash the product and say its entirely useless because I do believe that to SOME EXTENT, the unit does in fact effect the mice. However, I would not entirely depend on it as a final solution. They might be good for a preventative measure but if you already have established mice living in your home, you might need to indulge in other forms of extermination. If they've been living in your home for some time, they are not going to leave so easily. I've had them in my home for about two months now so this might be the reason why it's taking time. After a while though, they DO get use to repeating sounds, and then you are back to square one. For as long as they have available entry into your home, you will always have the possibility of mice roaming about in your house no matter how irritated they are by the unit. Before plugging it in, I have not seen them much due to making the house less homely for them. I will keep food thoroughly locked away. I don't leave dirty dishes lying around at night. Before going to bed, I will give all the rooms a good vacuum so that no crumbs are left in sight (mice can in deed live on crumbs and small bits of scraps, don't underestimate them!). I will stake out all of their possible hiding places (behind beds, sofas, stoves, fridges, etc), and I have cleared up all books and old newspapers, which they often use for nesting. The only way you will get rid of them is to find all the holes (I found at least five) and had them professionally covered (I'm with a Housing Assocation so mine was done for free). If they're still in the house, lay down the glue traps in the very place where you've seen the most activity. I can assure you that once you do this, your mice problems will be over. But don't solely rely on the unit. Use it as a back-up measure and nothing more. I have not seen or heard a mice in over a week but once again, I have not had the unit plugged in long enough and I took it upon myself to take the necessary action needed to deal with it. I have a five-year-old and was not willing to wait over a month for the unit to work especially since they were leaving their droppings everywhere. After another two or three weeks, I'll update the review.
