Brilliant In Every Way. Everything You Love About Tamiya.
I love this car. Tamiya has always been the go to brand for quality RC car kits. They were brilliant in the 1980's when I was a kid and they're even better now I'm 53 in 2022. I chose the Neo Fighter for a couple of reasons, primarily because I liked the look but the price was astounding too and I wanted a 2WD car as they're much more fun and require skill to drive. I've bought two now, one for around £75 and the other £65. I built one as it came out of the box with the exception of bearings (don't build an RC car without fitting bearings (£6.99 delivered for 14 rubber sealed bearings from a certain online auction website)). The other is heavily modified with a brushless motor, aluminium shocks, carbon fibre suspension mounts, aluminium suspension, gearbox mounts, ball differential, heavy turnbuckles aluminium wheels, bumpers, wing mount, etc. and it looks amazing and performs outstandingly. The original is great too but these cars are great fun to modify. As always with Tamiya, the instructions are clear and consise and simple to follow. This kit is ideal for a first time builder but also best for an experienced builder too. At first glance you'd think this kit was fragile and not able to take any abuse but as it states going up together it gets stronger and stronger and you soon realise its going to take a fair amount of abuse. OK, it's not going to take jumping off of a hill and landing 30 feet down on concrete but that's not what these cars are for. I've hammered mine around some pretty rough ground, jumped it, hit some pretty large boulders rolled it countless times and had it cartwheeling across concrete and it's not let me down once. It likes tatty now and the wind has seen better days but it just keeps going. The modified one gets treated much better and that one will outlast me. In the UK these kits come with a Tamiya Torque Tuned motor, Tamiya ESC (electronic speed controller) and oil filled socks. The ESC and shocks will set you back over £40 on their own which makes this kit a bargain. Make sure the kit you're buying has all this included as some model shops remove the motor and ESC as some people like to choose their own but they only take £10 off the kit price. Even if you want to upgrade these items you can sell the unwanted ones for way more than a tenner. You will need to buy a two channel radio control (around £25 to £35), at least one battery (NiMh is recommended by Tamiya) but I recommend you buy a few as you will want to keep having fun. and a charger. You'll also need batteries for the transmitter which are usually AA type. I recommend rechargeables for this too. I also recommend you buy a pot of thread locker gel (not liquid) to use on all nuts and bolts or anything screwing into metal as these will shake loose without and it's frustrating when a breakdown stops your fun early. Do NOT use thread locker on any plastic parts as it does make some plastics brittle. I also recommend you buy a tube of Tamiya ceramic grease. You get a 3g tube with the kit but it's not enough to build the kit in my opinion unless you are very literal with it but I like to grease my gearboxes well. I also like to put a tiny spot on the screws going into plastic as it really helps them going in and saves rounding off screw heads. Alternatively you could use a little candle wax. The grease and thread locker will set you back less than a tenner for the two but it's a sound investment. You'll want to regrade things along the way too. I highly recommend this kit especially at the prices I've mentored above. It's still around £75 as I write this.

Amazing Value kit
Really nice starter model from Tamiya. The fact it comes with an upgraded motor, an ESC and oil filled shock makes it crazy value. As with all Tamiya kits instuctions are clear and our son was able to do 90% of it himself. Spraying the shell is the only bit that wasn't so fun, I'd certainly recommend doing a single colour rather than the two tone they suggest, as getting a clean line between the colours with the masking was not straightforward and has ended up looking a bit ropey. Really a minor glitch in an otherwise amazing kit.

Great first build car
Great price on this purchase and a good introduction to building my first rc car. Buy the separate metal bearings and some more grease.

Don’t the ill informed reviews put you off.
If you don’t put a hot “fast” motor on them they are fine. Fast and durable enough for what they are. And loads of parts to 3D print for them. Also very easy to assemble. And yes this is a kit you have to assemble it and add radio gear charger and battery. But it does come with the motor and ESC.

Superb model for the money.
This is an excellent model, a bargain for around £75, worth it just for the better esc, motor and shocks alone. If it's your first venture into radio controlled cars, this model cannot be beaten for the price. I've had great fun, running it with a lipo 2s.

Incomplete and useless
We purchased this kit for my son based on the great reviews and because it specifically says that all parts, including a controller were included. The kit arrived and my son started to build it however I noticed that there was no controller or additional parts as listed in the box! completely useless without a controller and so we had to return it. Very disappointed!

Brilliant bit of kit!
For the price of just over £80 this is a brilliant 1/10 scale Tamiya buggy. Being a novice in the radio controlled model world, it took about a day to build and the car has already had plenty of knocks during use and is standing up well with no real damage (about from the odd scratch here and there but that’s to be expected).
