Q: In the instructions it says a cup of starter tea is required. Where do I source this?

All of our scobies include the starter tea in their pouch.

Q: Does it survive the cold conditions on the plane in my checked baggage for a couple of hours?

My scobi survived a month in my fridge when I was away so yours will probably survive minus 56 degrees for a couple of hours.

Q: What is the approximate diameter of the scoby? If it's too wide for my jar, can I cut it to size or should I just stuff it in there folded up?

They are all different shapes and sizes as they grow in varying containers and grow to fit the container so we can never guarantee a size, only its brewing power.Generally speaking a large scoby will happily fit in any 2L jar or bigger and a medium is a 1.5L jar or bigger however the scobies do not have to "fit" the jar, they can be rolled or folded to get them in.

Q: Can it be used to make apple cider Vinegar as a vinegar mother?

No, the vinegar mother contains different bacteria. the kombucha tastes very similar to apple cider vinegar and has similar benefits but it is not the same as apple cider vinegar and as far as i am aware cannot be used to make apple cider vinegar.
