There are instructions on the bag for light wash (3-5 nuts) heavy wash (4-6), soft water and hard water. Even though I have a water softener I found using about 6 or 7 on average gave good results. That is the reason I went onto Amazon to see what they could offer in the way of washing products and I found this product and my sinuses have improved 100%. They do not really have a smell which is great for someone like me. As a washing product they really do the job also - I have no complaints about them. If you wanted a fragrance, I suppose you could add something, there are alot of things out there these days. I should also add that they do not even smell of a laundry chemical, they just have a clean fresh smell which is lovely when you get between your clean sheets or put on a clean top.
