The only mouse I would consider using
This is the third Kensington trackball mouse that I have purchased for laptops and CCTV system and the first is still functioning beautifully after six years of daily use; up to eight hours a day. I have a shoulder problem which limits the use of an ordinary mouse or touchpad so a trackball mouse is much more comfortable and easier to use. This Kensington mouse is ergonomically perfect, stylish and accurate; allowing me to use it for longer with less physical strain. A simple colour combination of silver and black gives it a classic appeal. The large ball gives greater control of movement of the cursor and works perfectly with both Windows and Linux. I have tried other trackball devices but none of them have been so naturally well suited to my way of working. A little more in terms of cost than some others but definitely worth the extra if you have to spend a lot of time on a computer.

Mostly beats a mouse but no scroll-wheel!! Still fantastic though :))
Hi :) Fantastic device! :)) It worked straight-away in Linux, specifically Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Raspberrian, LibreElec and Noobs. It took Arch a minute or so to see it in Kodi but still without me having to do anything. :)) Now that i have gotten used to it i think a trackball is MUCH easier than any 'normal' mouse. It is especially good in various situations such as where desk-space is limited or where moving a mouse around is tricky, or if you've got a sprained/broken wrist. In some ways it's a bit like using a touchpad or touch-screen except the ball can keep going round much further. So it is very different and does take a looong time to get used to it. When i had only used 'normal' mice it took me 3 weeks to adapt to a trackball. Long ago I used a much heavier trackball that took more effort to get going but then could coast along for a moment even when i let go. In this one the trackball is much lighter but stops instantly when i stop. So it handles very differently but it only took me a day to adjust enough for most usages. The main problem is the lack of scroll-wheel or up/down button and this is pretty serious for a mouse!! It's why i 'had to' drop at least one star :(( Fortunately i can work-around the issue temporarily but it's a bit of a pain. Somewhere inside Linux it's probably possible to configure it so that pressing both mouse buttons makes the ball itself into a scroll-wheel. I'm not a programmer but i'm sure someone, somewhere has done something similar that can be copied&adapted. So, it's mostly fantastic with just 1 weird drawback. Many thanks and regards from Tom :)

Reliable, accurate and sturdy
I've used two Kensington Orbital Optical Trackball (large grey ball) devices now, each one for over 5 years, and I have enjoyed using both! The size of the base is just right for my hands, the ball is nice and big, and easy to roll, and the two 'click' buttons are in the right position for use. I would personally recommend this mouse to anyone who just wants a comfortable, accurate, easy-to-use mouse, that takes up limited space on one's desk and hardly needs cleaning! My only wish is that somehow, the ball could be 'fixed' to the base so it doesn't fall out... that said, mine has dropped a few times when I've moved the mouse's location... so far, the ball has been none the worse for the experience and the mouse has continued to work with precision!

Works for me
I use one of these at work and bought one for my mother because she doesn't get on with the mousepad on her laptop. I find it very easy to use. My mother's fingers aren't as flexible as mine so she doesn't get on with it quite as well, but that's not the fault of the mouse and it's still better than the mousepad. In other words, like all mice and similar devices, some users will find it ideal for them, some won't. At least with Amazon's returns policy, you can try it and send it back if it doesn't suit. Build quality is just OK, but at this price I don't expect Rolls Royce quality. The ball spins easily, the buttons have a positive if slightly 'tinny' click action and the cable is plenty long enough. Cleaning is easy - just tip the thing upside down and the ball falls out, then wipe inside with a soft cloth. There's one fairly serious downside - the ball falls out too readily. Due to a combination of arthritic hands and a habit of resting the mouse on the soft arm of the sofa, my mother tends to tip the mouse occasionally and that's when the ball drops out. If the ball was more securely held in place, I'd give it four stars.

Excellent piece of kit.
I originally bought a Trackball for my Mother as, after breaking her wrist in a fall, she developed Arthritis in her wrist and found using a normal Mouse not only difficult to operate but caused a great deal of pain after a short while. The Trackball meant that she could rest her arm comfortably on the desk with her wrist supported, and mainly operate her computer using just her index finger to move the Ball and left thumb to left click with, (right click was usually her third finger right hand). The Ball is easy to control and moves very easily when just flicked across as one does with a moblie phone screen. The only downside is that it does not have a scroll wheel so you have to use the scroll bar on the side of the screen to scroll up or down, ie left button press and hold down, then use ball to scroll up or down. I have found that leaving a normal 'wheel mouse' connected for these occasions is the answer. Overall, having bought one for myself as well, I find the Trackball easy to use and it is much kinder to ones wrist especially when having to use the computer for any length of time.

Loose ball and loud clicks
The ball floats in its lodging and is not held in place. The hand is quite raised and the absence of a scrolling functionality make it all frustrating. Plus it's loud and wobbly I returned it and am happy with the kensington orbit trackball with scroll ring instead. Works for either hand

Arthritic hands and easy to use
Great easy in your hand to use

Fits the hand well. Easy to set up. I have been using a well known marble mouse for years, but it appears to be obsolete now. Any on the secondary market are horrendously overpriced, so finding this as a replacement is great.

Having used the Logitech trackball for years, but when it was time to replace Logitech's prices went too high. So, recently tried the Kensington with the Ring and found it to be too wide for most hands here...to the point of being uncomfortable and clumsy. Decided to take a chance on this one without the "ring" and what a difference! The width is just right and the ball moves ever so smoothly and quickly and stops easy too! It is being used on a Linux O/S and absolutely no problems. Highly recommend this mouse. For those who need to know the size width: The narrowest part where your hand lies across the top (to click either left or right side of mouse) is approx. 2.25 inches. Compared to the same brand with "the ring" which is approx. 3 full inches. Also the highest height of the ball on the "ring" model is 2.50 inches and on THIS model it is a half inch lower. SO you can see by these measurements this model is much more suitable for smaller hands, or hurting/stiff hands. Additionally, other reviewers stated that the trackball is loose and falls out...I too noticed that my trackball was not seated all the way in. I took it out and examined it and saw that there is a clear piece of plastic that was stuck on the ball and had rolled to the under side of the ball. It was hard to see because it was clear and had black writing on it and the ball is a very dark gray. I think this piece of plastic had some warning on it -- maybe to remove before use...but it was difficult to see. Now that that is removed the only way I can remove the ball from its place is to turn the mouse over and it gently falls out so that you clean/dust it off. It never just falls out or pops out...unless something is in the way. Its a great little mouse...thinking about getting another one!

I've always wanted a trackball mouse, after using my aunt's awesome Logitech one I've always wanted my own, late last year I finally got one. The Kensington Orbit is a comfortable and easy to use trackball mouse. Compared to some other trackball mice it's design is pretty simple featuring the Trackball and the right and left click buttons. Its a minimalist design that serves the product well. It's pretty light and not as chunky as some other mice. My only gripe with this is the fact that it dosent have a scroll wheel, so if I want to go down I have to track back to the scroll bar and manually scroll down. That being said there is more good than bad here. This is a great little mouse and I'm happy with my purchase.
