good continuity
loved that, you can follow the story to the silence of the lambs, and enjoyed the reprised roles. Good acting and good storyline.

Better than MANHUNTER? I don't think so.
Second and third viewings of this movie underline my feeling that it's not really an improvement on MANHUNTER, the first version of this story directed by Michael Mann, with Brian Cox in chilling form as everyone's favourite cannibal. The extension of the ending, as in the novel, is gratifying, and I like the dinner party at the beginning, which I don't think was part of the novel. As in HANNIBAL, Anthony Hopkins slightly camps up his performance as Hannibal Lecter, making him almost a pantomime villain. The 'Tooth Fairy; is an even more unsettling killer than 'Buffalo Bill' in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, but Tom Noonan in MANHUNTER was creepier than Ralph Fiennes. LAMBS is still the best of the movies, although HANNIBAL is my personal favourite oif Thomas Harris's books - Gothic on an epic scale!

Engaging, good story and cast
Interesting to compare this film with Manhunter and the Hannibal television series. This is comparable storyline with Red dragon. The Lector is dark as are the sets whilst the Manhunter lector is "brighter". These are interesting and different adaptations. An interesting watch which has a strong Lector but a weak Will Graham. Fiennes is a good "dragon". Worth watching.

Brilliant.
This is by far the better of the two films made after The Silence Of The Lambs. Hannibal wasn't very good at all - over the top, unsubtle, excessively gory, and just not clever enough.Red Dragon on the other hand is superb. I expect this is mainly because of Fiennes, and the other acting, but also the story had subtlety and grace of its own, which wasn't just shocking but had a depth and intrigue that reminded me of the first film.I was immersed in it very quickly and will watch it again.

Enjoyable, not Silence of the Lambs though
A reasonable watch with some tense moments but it doesn't deliver on the same level as Silence. Hopkins is great once again but if you want your Ralph Fiennes fix go watch The Grand Budapest Hotel or The English Patient. The Red Dragon (Ralph Fiennes) is just not scary and his backstory is weak, I'm surprised Lecter would bother helping. So much potential, shame it didn't deliver.[Spoiler Below]I think my biggest issue is that Clarese in Silence of the Lambs is plunged into darkness and we experience a deeply chilling scene and the pinnacle moment of horror. This has a blind lady and we experience no such horror she leaves the house whilst it's on fire.

Good film
This film in the Hannibal collection is quite creepy & also gory so if you don't like blood then don't watch it! The actor playing Will Graham is really good & someone you can identify with. It arrived in good time & was value for money.

***WARNING*** **NOT** About a red dragon
Good film. But I think the title is misleading. Fans of dragons, Ed Norton, or the colour 'red' will be disappointed. Fans of nutcase serial killer maniacs will enjoy this. Extra points for being on the antiquated and outmoded "DvD" format!
