Hi, I brought two of them and have noticed a bad smell to them. How can I remove the smell? It makes me want to gag every time my nose near them.

I don't know. I have the same problem and it transfers to the papers stored in the drawers, which is really annoying. The odd thing is that the matching desk tidies don't smell.

Will these cases stack?

Yes..... They stack perfectly! I have three stacked, but you could stack more.

I want to use this for A4 paper, do the drawers open on the short side? or on the long side.

On the short side. But the drawers don't fit properly in so they fall into the next level and it's frustrating to pull out. I use it for makeup and to be honest it's not that great. I'm going to get the muji ones as they're better quality

would these be strong enough to hold a monitor?

I do t think these would be Strong enough for an average monitor. There did not appear to be any give in the plastic but I would not want to put any real weight on them
