Absolutely no problem using them on a coal fire.

Are these safe to use on open fire gas fires?

My husband says definitely not for use on any type of gas fie.

Are the ashes toxic to the environment? Can they be spread into the garden or do they have to be disposed of?

They are covered in copper sulphate so the ashes cannot be put on the garden

Can these be used on a chimnea

These can be used on open fires and woodburners so I think a chimnea would come under that category too. The coloured flames come from the pine cones themselves so can be seen clearly.
