Well-made timer
I bought this to replace a Cilio timer I loved. I looked at a lot of timers before buying this one, and I'm glad I did! It's smaller than I'd like, and the ticking isn't very loud, so sometimes it's hard to tell it's actually working. The alarm (when mounted on the refrigerator) is louder than the Cilio and startled me at first, but it's not too loud. The timer has a good weight to it, the magnet sticks well to the refrigerator, and it feels like it's well-made and should last for at least the 8 years the Cilio timer did.

Failed after 1 week. Another victim to the modern trend of inferior goods.
I like the look, I hate the function. Magnetizing this boldly-colored thing to my fridge door looked nice, but after 1 week of gentle and infrequent use, it stopped ringing when it hit zero. 75% of the time that I try to use it, now, when the hand hits 0 it DOESN'T ring, my food inevitably overcooks, and then the second I so much as *tap* it, it suddenly rings. It's like it's getting caught on the last tick before it can sound off... I've tried lying it flat and letting it tick that way, I've tried winding the *exact* amount and I've tried over-winding (going all the way to 55, then coming back to my desired time) and no matter what, this issue persists. I grew up with these things. They used to be bulky and reliable--nearly invincible. This is a cheaply-made impersonation of the old and good stuff. This is the product of corner cutting, inferior machining, and inferior materials. Go find a different maker/product. This is not the one for you (unfortunately).

Beautiful timers!
These timers are the best!!! I have five, it’s a collection. I set all five and when they all go off at the same time or within seconds of each other, I just love it. The colors are so vibrant just amazing. I could say I’m kind of addicted but I will stop at five. I wanted to get the blue one, but it’s always out of stock so I may get it. We’ll see sure looks pretty on my refrigerator all of them. What I don’t understand , is when people say it doesn’t work they must not be following the directions , going all the way back past 55 coming all the way back to what they need the timer set for and stopping there, all five of mine work perfect , never had a problem with any of them.

Worked well for a year and a half, then died.
Looks great (very retro/industrial) and figured since it's a European company that's been around awhile it would be reliable...which it was until today. Looking at our purchase date, it's only lasted 18 months—not sure if it's planned obsolescence but regardless, I'm going to try another brand.

Works well
Keeps time well. It seems very sturdy. I like that it is magnetic and I can keep it on the fridge. It looks retro and matches my aesthetic. IT is not too loud.

Superb Quality — 10 Thumbs Up
UPDATE #2: It is now another 8 years after my 2017 update … and my Zassenhaus timer is still working to perfection! That means I’ve now used this timer almost daily for 15 years and it still works as well as it as the day I bought it. European quality, people — worth every extra penny! Again, I ALWAYS turn the dial fully around before reducing to my desired time, but that’s not much to ask, is it? —————————————————————————————————————— UPDATE: It is now a full 7 years after my initial review below, and I am very happy to report that this timer still works as well as the day I bought it. THAT’S quality, the kind of quality I think a mountain of cheap Chinese goods has made us forget is still possible. I will add, however, that I ALWAYS follow the basic instructions: I always turn the knob the full way around before lowering to my needed time, even if that is just 3 minutes. And I never force it to ring if I have set it for more time than I needed. But it’s a quality item that was definitely worth the added expense. Maybe I’ll come back and update at year 15! 😂 ____________________________________________________________________________ So far, so good -- though the true indication of quality will come two years down the road, when this puppy still works (as opposed to the cheaper $12 version I bought here that died in Year 2). Still, the quality seems very high: very heavy, with a turn mechanism that seems quite solid, etc. And it's loud enough to hear from a room or two away, so thumbs up from me for now.

Unreliable - Timer fails about one in three times
Unfortunately, the return policy on this supposed marvel of German engineering is only 30-days. There's no place on the Zassenhaus website to contact them to complain or request help for this little timer. I realize it's only twenty-two bucks. The instructions are very clear. Wind the thing up to the full hour and then back to the time you want to set. Even after doing that, about one in three times, the ticking stops and if your kitchen is dead silent (like any kitchen worth it's salt is ever quiet), you discover that it's just gone to sleep. Sometimes if you tap the thing in the middle it leaps to life (but only for a few minutes, when you've moved on to whatever's in the frying pan... and it stops again). If I could get in touch with the company, it would be a no-brainer. But, the combination of the defective product and no way to get help - I'd save my money if I were you. Sure it's pretty... but I still have to use my iPhone to bake my granola. And that app came free with the phone. Any Zassenhaus support people out there reading this? Why not contact me and make this right... I won't set the timer while I wait...

Pretty but defective
I ordered this timer because it looks beautiful and I trust the brand integrity. The first time I got was defective and it would not actually work. As the timer came down to zero, it would never ring. I made an exchange with Amazon and they sent a new one that did work. However, the ring is not very loud and it is very short, so it is easy to miss. Nonetheless I was happy with the product. A month after using the face of the timer, completely warped, and now it is hardly usable.of course I did not let Amazon know in time and just kept using it in this state. I just reached out to the manufacturer to see if they were do anything about it. This is not a cheap product and you expect to get a premium product for a premium price. That is not the case here. Though it looks nice I cannot in good conscience recommend this product. of course I did not let Amazon know in time and just kept using it in this broken state.

Retro kitchen timer that screams quality
While others are pounding buttons to set kitchen timers, I prefer to flick a dial and walk away to do more useful things. Old school timers lasted years; new, well, a year is a long time and random fails mean burned food. This heavy built timer seems to be old school, and works fine to my hearing and use. Turn a bit past, and then back to your time, and it will keep its end of the bargain. How all my gear should be ...

trés bon minuteur même si defaut mineur
c'est un excelent minuteur pour le prix, l'aimant est trés bon et tien bien en place l'appareil. Seul petit défaut est que le minuteur a moins d'une minute de chronométrage il ne sonne pas
