Absolutely love this sketchpad! The fine-grain toned paper is perfect for pencils, charcoal, and pastels, providing excellent texture and professional-quality results. The spiral binding keeps pages secure while allowing easy flipping, and the 118gsm sheets are sturdy enough for multiple layers. High-Quality Paper That Makes Painting a Joy
I absolutely love the Strathmore 400 watercolour hardbound book. The 300gsm cold-pressed paper is thick and durable, handling washes and layering without buckling, and the texture gives just the right amount of grip for watercolours. Colours blend beautifully and stay vibrant, and the hardbound format makes it feel really sturdy and professional while also protecting the pages. Itโs a great size to work with and feels ideal for both finished pieces and practice. Overall, itโs high quality and a real pleasure to paint in.

Great product !
Really good quality toned paper. I have never tried drawing on toned paper before and was curious to try it. It really brings my drawings to life as it enables you to bring out more depth with white highlighting. For portraiture it creates a really unique a pop to all the details. You also get a good amount of sheets so I imagine it will take me some time to get through it and I will most certainly enjoy doing so. I will definitely be repurchasing!

Very good book for fun but overpriced comparatively to spiral version
This is a nice sketchbook, it's well made and from a great company my only issue is the price hike for a hard bound in comparison to the spiral bound version of the same ! Luckily for me I got an amazon resale item which was heavily reduced , the cover is a nice feel but as others mention is easily marked up which is a shame for if you want it for "best" if your not bothered by things getting tatty then I'd suggest getting the spiral version to save money ! The binding is strong and needs a good press to open flat as you move through the book but with normal use and wear this will be fine. Overall a good book although it is NOT 100% cotton and is made of recycled materials which i didnt realise to begin with

Good for students.
For all my fellow artitst this is a very good sketchbook, I did two tests on this paper to test how good it was, prismatic colours work very well with this paper, very smooth, with no pen bleeds to the page behind it. The paper itself is also very smooth so pencil sketches are effortless, and rubbing it out is like BUTTER, NO paper excess. And it's thick so the paper won't fall out, this size specifically is A4. 10 inches wide , 12 inches tall.

First Impessions
Ordered this after watching a youtube vid of someone using it. I have tried tracking this paper down in the UK but could only find one supplier and they only sell books with 25 sheets for about the same price as I purchased this book of 50 sheets for.!! Its not 100% clear on the Item page that this is coming from the USA, but the 3 week wait was worth it. The paper is a very nice mid grey and comes in a very sturdy spiral bound pad. Each page is perforated for easy removal is needed. For my needs the paper is great, its not super smooth but there is not as much texture as I was expecting. As a comparison its about the same as a Daler Rowney hard back sketch journal if you want to check one out at your local art shop. I have done a few sketches today to test the paper and it stands up well. I mainly use B to 6B pencils then use a Fabber Polychrome white pencil to add high light.. I have all so used some Touch and promarker art pens as a test and was surprised to find that the pens don't appear to bleed, but of course you have to take into account the colours look dull on the grey paper, but there good as base colours for using coloured pencil on top. Over all im very pleased with this purchase even with the wait, although the expected delivery date was set as the 2nd November it arrived today 21st October. Whether that will be the case next time I don't know ? But I will be ordering another pad this size and the bigger size too.

Great for portraits in charcoal and graphite!
Very good paper, great size to work with. I'm a portrait artist and I have found this to be very efficient and not too thin. The texture is perfect for blending charcoal in particular and the fine fibers throughout add a wonderful character. I have attached a picture of my first attempt on toned gray paper :) as you can see it has really allowed for dramatic contrast and realism. The only trouble i'm finding is working in both dark black and white and allowing the paper to be a mid tone, isn't always easy as you need to avoid blending the black into the white. But generally very very effective. When compared with white paper, this certainly captures more atmosphere to the drawings and much smoother surface. I would definitely recommend this paper, its not as thick as I would have liked, but having said that, I don't find it too thin either and I can be very heavy handed. The cover is beautiful and a canvas texture. Will definitely buy more.
