An Extremely Effective Shaver
I had not used an electric shaver for some time, but the need to shave regularly and sometimes on a busy schedule made one necessary for me when wet shaving feels like a luxury. The cost of decent wet shave blades these days is also monstrous. I have found this Series 3 to be a really excellent performer that keeps my facial hair well at bay and fits well into a mixed shave routine. Unlike older shavers, where the foil covered the blades that were attached to the shaver, the blades and the foil are all one unit and come off together. They are also replaceable - and may be cheaper (thank you Amazon) than buying a big pack of wet razor blades. You can brush your bristles out our run the head under a tap (I tend to dry shave with the Braun). Performance wise, the Braun deals excellently with my chin and lip hair; on the side of my face, I have to really slow down a bit to get a smoother shave on my back cheeks and around the neck. One thing to say is that I get no razor burn at all as I do have sensitive skin. If you facial hair is a bit longer, just go more slowly. The S3 has not hurt me at all yet and its head is good for 18 months (and that I imagine is if you use it more than I do as like I said, I mix shave). Ergonomically it is hard to drop - fits like a glove in my hand. The only downside is that sometimes when I take the clear plastic foil protector off, the foil/blade head comes off with it and if you have not cleaned it previously, your bristles and dead skin goes all over the place so don't grab the foil protector too hard! Battery life is very good indeed and the pull out side burn blade is also very useful too. All in all a very satisfying piece of kit that just does what it is supposed to do. And isn't that good news!! Highly recommended.

Great shaver.
I've been using this shaver for a week now and I'm very impressed. I was using a Remington twin foil mains shaver before it but the replacement foils and cutters are no longer available. This Braun is so much better. It's fairly quiet and nicer to use without a mains lead being attached. It is also much sharper and more gentle on my skin. I never have any redness or burning sensation and it shaves me very quickly. The slide up trimmer works well too which was something I'd worried about because the Remington trimmer was good but this one is just as good. I use it for dry shaving and it does give a very close and comfortable shave. The only criticism I have is the pins on the mains charger are thinner than others and they wobble about slightly when I plug them into my UK shaver adaptor but they don't fall out and the shaver charges without a problem. I'd certainly recommend this shaver. I am very happy with it and am glad I bought it. I've been using electric shavers for over forty years and this one is the best yet.

Works well.
My son has been using another well know brand shaver for sometime and it finally gave up. I thought an โupgradeโ would be good, and thought a different brand might be a good try. On the previous one, the whole head moved, on this just the foils do. It's not too good at chowing straight into week long stubble as a previous brand we used. In fact, the results were pretty rough doing that, much longer time to shave and didn't do such a clean job. To combat this, I coax my son to try a different approach (he has autism, change isn't easy) - the compromise is to shave twice a week, just using the foils, but also using the trimmer (quite basic but functional) to help him take some of the thickness out (his beard grows very quickly). This is working well, despite the protests (did I say he doesn't like shaving?!). It is actually quite a nice and robust shaver, light weight and with decent foils and easy to clean. It's giving a better shave over all I think and great on his skin (not necessarily sensitive but prone to spots). If you're also a reluctant shaver and like to just do so once a week, you may wish to invest a bit more for something that will tackle that. If you like a beard there's a beard trimmer. No carry bag which is a shame. And you'll need a shaver adapter plug. The charge lasts well, and the charge level indicator means youโre not half way through a shave when it stops!

A very good shaver
I bought this to replace a twelve year old Braun shaver that had lain idle for years and whose battery was unable to hold any charge. I wondered before buying if technology had improved much in the intervening time. I'm very pleased that it seems to have done. This shaver is slightly smaller and lighter than my old one so that's a plus. The shaver head is quite different with two tilting shaving bars and one fixed. It has a useful sideburn trimmer that pushes out. It's quite stiff I find but unobtrusive when stowed away. You need to charge the shaver for four hours before use and use it without charging again till it runs flat. This is to condition the battery for maximum life. I like to shave almost every day and was sceptical that I'd get anything like as close as close a shave with the electric shaver as with a wet shave. My scepticism was well-founded. However, it was quite a surprise to find what a good close shave I did get. It's quite quiet in use, ergonomic in the hand and powerful enough to get through tough stubble easily, I have a few places where hairs lie flat and very close to my neck and the Braun struggled with those at first. After a few shaves it is catching them now. I suppose it takes a little time for skin to get used to dry electric shaving again. Some slight niggles. The on/off button is where my thumb goes when moving the shaver over my face and I occasionally switch the thing off accidentally. Not a major problem but slightly irritating. There is no carrying case with it although a guard to protect the shaver head and on/off switch is provided. The shaver can be used in the shower with gel or foam but I don't really get that as I want an electric shaver for the convenience of being able to shave clothed if necessary and to avoid all the mess and paraphernalia of wet shaving. A small cleaning brush enables me to sweep away debris though it can be washed under the tap - necessary if used with gel or foam. The battery is claimed to last about an hour between charges but I haven't used it that long so I'm unable to verify that yet. It seems well made, strong but light and I'm very pleased with it.

A fantastic electric foil shaver at a great price.
At less than half price compared to Boots and delivered next day you can't go wrong. Braun are such a well know name you know you are buying quality. This shaver claims to be the best on 3 day stubble, and it doesn't disappoint. It is a fully wet and dry shaver, so you can use it as a standard dry electric shaver, or use it with shaving gel or foam in place of a razor. You can use it in the shower or bath, and can wash it under running water to clean it after use. I use it every day as I can't use a standard razor. I have psoriasis and shaving literally tears my skin open. This shaver is gentle enough to use without leaving my face sore, but good enough to shave it very close. It shaves closely on the first pass, so there is no need to go over the same bit over and over again, reducing irritation. At has an integrated trimmer for sideburns, which slides up with a push from your thumb and two shave heads which move independently to keep the shaver in contact with your face. The battery life seems good. On the day I received it, I charged it for 5 hours as instructed. The next instruction was to use it until the battery runs out and then charge it again. This conditions the battery so that a standard full charge will only take one hour. I will have to wait and see, as I have shaved every day since that first charge and it is still going strong. 7 days so far. I can't fault this shaver, and just hope it lasts a long time.

Top Class Shaver for smooth clean shave
I had old one of these that finally died (recharch batt gone). So pleased to see exact same model still produced. No brainer to buy replacement. Really does give exceptionally smooth clean close shave and side trimmer is very handy for sideburns or just trimming down beard if not shaved for a while. And simple to wash under tap. Recharges fully in well under under hr. Not cheap but for performance is well worth it.

.....a curate's egg...
....my 5th electric razor and my 2nd Braun (the 1st being a battery model that I aquired with Texaco stamps decades ago and which I've still got...somewhere...) acquired c. 3 months ago and in regular use since. Also. the most expensive one I've ever bought, being X 2.5 dearer than my last razor, which lasted nearly 3 years and came from a leading cut-price German retail chain. So, what I like about the Series 3 3040s: 1). 'Feels' solid, relatively heavy and well-made. 2). Charges quickly and runs for about 8 days subsequently. 3). The main body is very easy to clean, by which I mean brush out since, even tho' it can be used 'wet' or 'dry' I don't and wouldn't ever use it as a 'wet' shaver... 4). Never had any 'sensitive skin' issues so can't comment on this advertised feature. 5). The hair trimmer is the best I've used to date... ....and on the 'minus' (hence ***) side: 1). As previously mentioned, the most expensive electric razor I've ever bought ...and I am aware that there are Braun and other manufacturers who offer FAR more expensive options.... All my previous shavers have worked quite adequately and I've been content with them. I therefore expected this new Braun to function fairly reliably.... 2). however, given the price, it has one particularly irritating issue that I think justifies its middling rating....as mentioned, the main body of the razor is easy to clean yet the shaving head has 'disassembled' itself 4 times when I GENTLY tap it on a hard surface to clean it out. The structure of the cutting head means that the little brush supplied is useless for cleaning it out, and one can only dislodge a little by blowing through the cutting head. I've never had this problem with any of my previous electric shavers....even the old battery Braun. The problem would have been mitigated if re-assembly wasn't such a fiddle....there are 6 slender - and therefore very fragile-looking - plastic pins on which the 3 parts of 'head which make contact with one's skin sit. Trial, error and patience have enabled me to now be able to re-build the cutting head with a degree of confidence that I won't snap off one or more of the aforementioned pins ( start with the 2 outer foils, correctly orientated, then insert the white middle piece between them...) Hence only 3 stars.....I like pretty much everything else about this shaver... maybe I've got a dodgy shaver head, but it works when re-assembled. If the battery and motor last until a new cutting head is needed I'll see how I get on from there....

Value for money
Decent and durable shaver. Has decent power to it and works well. Not the closest shave & sometimes you have to go over areas a few times. Good value for money and a decent design.
