Sketching from the Imagination: Sci-fi

This order was my first introduction to the books published by 3Dtotal. I’ve now gone on to order others from this series as well as other works from 3Dtotal’s catalogue. This book in particular is a great collection of raw, inspiring and imaginative works from many different artists. The books structure isn’t linear, it invites you to flick through the variety of art styles available, until whatever artist catches your eye first! Great purchase, would recommend!

I adore these books.Yes - I won't deny it - they really are only a showcase for the artists. BUT what a showcase!And if you approach them with the right frame of mind they are an inspiration - hone your skills by copying some of the art; use the art as a base idea for your own expansion; just see how a certain artists does the thing you've been trying to do - robot arms, monster ears, etc.Think "just a showcase" and you might not like it.... think "examples and ideas of amazing work" and you'll love it.This applies to the other books in this set - I have them all and have found, out of the approx 1200 pages of art, only about a dozen that I don't like.Thoroughly recommended!

Super book full of little insights into artist ideas, methods and even a bit of humour too.Whilst not exactly a tutorial, I'd recommend this as a reference to anyone interested in the popular genre of scifi art. Some great artist tips in there to learn from and good sketches to examine construction and techniques.Having a lot of fun reading and looking forward to putting some methods into practice.

Didnt realise how full of inspiration this was, really thick book. Great buy for any aspiring artist, loads of robots, aliens and astronauts! Looking to buy the whole set I think.

filled with great art cover to cover, and really interesting articles from the artists (arranged A-Z) explaining their techniques in detail. I have many tutorial books etc but I refer to this one more than anything else for the above reasons. Top purchase, very happy with it

Ich finde diese Reihe richtig toll:Die Bücher sind schön strukturiert; einzelne Künstlerinnen und Künstler bekommen eine bestimmte Anzahl an Seiten, um ihre Zeichnungen und ihren persönlichen Hintergrund, ihr kreatives Vorgehen usw. vorzustellen. Die Qualität der Zeichnungen ist sehr gut und man kann sich einiges abgucken oder einfach nur die tollen Abbildungen genießen.Jedes einzelne Buch ist für mich eine abwechslungsreiche Quelle an Inspirationen.

Much more than i expected. I love it!

The artist's accounts of how they sketch helped me learn how to draw so that it motivates me to draw more and more, which grew my skills a lot. The art featured is also really interesting and inspiring.

Book is well illustrated and good reference for artists and illustrators.
