Good companion for those of us with no sense of direction
This was bought as a replacement for Waze on a mobile. It's been going strong for some time now. It's been dropped in the van numerous times, spends most of its life in the glove box and still performs its duties admirably. It's recently had the maps and software updated to the latest versions. It's clear at offering directions and it's as accurate as you can expect. There have been odd occasions where it's stumbled but always bear in mind that sat navs are no replacement for commmon sense. It's also not powered on a few times but a reset cures that problem.Sometimes the map is hard to read when glancing at it (e.g. in built-up areas) but maybe I need to change the display settings.A good buy though and will keep it until it really gives up.

Garmin satnav
I hadn't had a Garmin before, this was the most reasonably priced one. I tried it out today and it works fine and got me to my destination, though it did switch off once en route. Very easy to use which is good as there is no instruction manual. Screen very readable.

Fantastic, look no further
This is my first satnav, I did a lot of research beforehand to find one of the best budget satnavs around and this seems to be it! Clear display, really intuitive for new users like myself and so easy to set up and get going. A few times, I've deviated from the 'planned' route and it is quick to recalculate an alternative route to your destination based on your new direction. There are really helpful diagrams of complex junctions, and helpful commands telling you which lane to be in at junctions or if any lanes turn off the desired route. Battery life is disappointing, but this seems to be an issue across these kind of products. In essence, for all journeys that are far enough away to warrant needing satnav directions, you'll need to plug in to a usb port or cigarette lighter. I've used my car cigarette lighter with the provided power converter which works a treat. The touchscreen is good enough, but not quite as sensitive as phone screens I'm used to - sometimes takes longer to type things out than I would like. It seems to pick up car parks/restaurants/shops very well, and receives updates via a desktop app which is simple and easy to use. I'm impressed with the speed camera and speed limit information which is kept up to date with temporary limits and mobile camera areas around roadworks, and has a good live speed function. Fantastic handset for the price, I don't feel like I'm missing anything from it, look no further - it does everything you need, and well!

Room for improvement
I bought this to replace my TomTom that broke. It picks up GPS quickly and is easy to search for an address. I like that you can also search for hotels or restaurants as this means this can take you to the right place rather than having to put in the postcode and area and not get to the exact place you need. It connects to your phone which is good in that I can search for business names to help find locations for work travel. This is a useful feature but only allows me to search in my local area and not UK wide, maybe I’m doing something wrong but if I wanted it to take me to a specific business in another part of the UK it seems I would need to get to that region before searching and resetting the sat nav.The lane assistance feature is good, tells you exactly what lanes to be in rather than just saying ‘keep right’ as my TomTom did. The only thing I don’t like is if I come off a slip road it doesn’t tell me the roundabout exit I need to take until a little late meaning I’m unsure of what lane to be in and if it’s busy traffic it’s not always easy changing lanes last minute. The screen is clear but one thing I don’t like is you can only have either time of arrival or miles left displayed on the screen, you can’t display both.So far it’s been fine with getting me where I need to go with one exception. I travelled from the north east to Cornwall and it took me down through Manchester which was about 40 miles longer and added an hour to my journey. It should’ve took me down the M1. This seemed to have occurred because I put to avoid toll bridges as when I did it again to accept toll bridges it calculated the correct route. Very strange as no toll bridge on either route.

Trustworthy Garmin Drive device .....
Already being the owner of several Garmin devices I was always confident that this device was going to continue with the standard that I have come to expect from Garmin. The Drive 51LMT-S has alot of features that I'm likely not going to use, however in saying that, in today's market the 'stand alone' Sat Nav has got to have all the bells and whistles built in to challenge GPS packaged with cars and mobile phones.I have no hestitation in recommending this product to anyone looking for a no nonsense Sat Nav system - in my experience, routes are calculated quickly and accurately either using postcodes or addresses, and more importantly the route is re-calculated very quickly should you miss or take a wrong turning along your route. The 'Lifetime' updates are also a bonus. I find Garmin Express extremely easy and reliable to use for updating. As other reviewers have mentioned, the memory on the device may soon fill up after a few updates, (map updates are generally 1GB - 1.25GB in size), by an easy solution is to use the micro SD expansion slot which supports micro SD cards up to 32GB in size, so you can easily fit several map updates on to the card before having to worry about deleting data.In summary, once you have set your preferences to suit, this is a very reliable Sat Nav device that you can use with confidence. Recommended.
