CTEK Battery Sense 40-149 - Monitors the Status of Car Batteries

A good product, I have two, one on a car on the drive and the other in the street. The reason for buying the CTEK to have both vehicles in one app, plus I have one of their chargers and that seems well made and works well.The signal connects from the front window but only just. The temperature is handy, you can see how cold the car is in a morning and knowing the voltage/charge state avoids going out to go to work only to find a flat battery. One car has a fairly small battery and needs charging reasonably often especially during lockdown when it is not getting used much.The charge state is determined from the voltage with a correction for temperature, so 11.5v is 0% and 12.7v is 100% subject to temperature when not been charged. It must detect when it is been charged since 12.8v equates to 0% and 14.8v equates to 100% when been charged and the charge state doesn’t jump as soon as the engine is started, but goes up slowly as the voltage rises whilst the battery is been charged.The monitor is good, the app is slightly less good. I haven’t had any of the problems others have reported but the graph scale is fixed, so voltage is 0 to 25v and a car battery only changes by about 2-3v so you can’t really see any change in voltage on the graph. There is a similar problem for temperature, but not as bad, it is 0 - 100C. The time scale can be zoomed in and scrolled, which works well and the charge state (0 to 100%) works well enough.If there was scaling on the voltage and temperature scales they would get 5 stars.

Works very well.Much easier than getting out the voltmeter and opening the bonnet etc.App works well with Galaxy S8 Plus.Sometimes the information update requires exiting then reopening the app (but that is only a 'couple' of finger taps which is no hardship).(UPDATE - The app seems to perform best, at least with my combo, if I go, on my phone, to Settings^Apps^Battery Sense^Force Shut Down. A warning appears to the effect that it may cause problems, if the app is 'forced to shut down', but as yet I have not detected any adverse effects. I then reopen the app and the battery information is updated showing current temperature, voltage and percentage charge. I have followed this procedure about 4 times a day (out of curiosity) and I find the fluctuations in voltage interesting. After a six mile commute in stop/start traffic the voltage drops from about 12.7 to 12.45, but then during the day, whilst the battery is at rest, the voltage rises to, near enough, it's starting level) - END OF UPDATE.The app displays (or can display) battery capacity (eg 75ah), percentage charge, and temperature. It also displays a graph which shows the charged state of the battery over a time scale, and also warns you if the battery needs charging.Initially my car battery (which was new) showed a charge level of 58 per cent. After about six hours connected to the charger the charge level was 100 per cent.If you have more than one battery to monitor then additional Battery Sense transmitters can be linked to the app and each given a different label (e.g. Ford Focus, Nissan Micra, Jaguar XJS or you could identify the battery by the vehicle reg).I would not hesitate recommending the product.UPDATE - I have now bought a second Battery Sense transmitter because I am so pleased with the performance.UPDATE - The picture on Amazon (Nov 2017) shows eyelet/ring connectors. My units both have fork connectors ( as per the illustration on the packaging) and Ctek have confirmed that they have made what is described as a 'running change'. The connectors are now 6.4 mm forks.UPDATE - An alert was received indicating that a '2 week old' battery needed charging.Upon examining the battery history in the app it was discovered that the capacity of charge had dropped from 88 percent to 55 percent in the space of 20 minutes. Needless to say the battery will be returned to the merchant and I am expecting a replacement.

After using this for a number of weeks it's time to give up on it.Too late to return and the manufacturer don't answer any support queries.The app should have been much better than that offered for the BM2 devices given the stature of the company but it's poor and full of issues. The company have ceased production and seem to have no interest in support. For all intents and purposes it's a complete waste of money.I bought it after my battery was replaced as I liked the design and that it has a fuse but the longer it's used the more unusable it becomes, the app seems to hang for several minutes when first opened and the time wasted gets longer so seems to be related to the amount of data held.If I had a chance to install it when it first arrived I would have been in time to return it.If the company were to contact me to discuss my support ticket they might determine that the device was faulty but if it is out of production and they don't care, what can you do. My feeling is it's just very poor and have decided to replace it with the BM6 which is an advancement on the BM2 which has a far superior app to the Ctek.Lesson learned, stupidly expensive kit isn't always better than cheaper stuff.

I’m fan of CTEK chargers and been using it for like 6 some years. I finally got two of this monitor after I order one first.I read kinda funky on setup and also how app works . I have kinda agree but adding 2 second unit it gave me little grief but I have both installed for awhile and never have issuesSometimes when you check one vehicle it may have an issues but usually close the app and access the 2nd vehicle works fine.There is a time no issues accessing both . App is pretty simple and definitely Bluetooth isn’t going reach far out in your house but easily read the data by the vehicle.You can expand the graph in app as well. So you can see in detail if you need it .Also while you are driving you can get good reading .

Not worth 1 dollar. You have to actively initiate a connection. So if the battery is bad you do not get a warning. Only when you initiate a connection can you see if something is wrong. Much better products out there. I suggest ctek takes this product off the market. It is destroying your great reputation for great chargers.

Le produit est très bien fini. Le montage est très facile et tout le nécessaire est livré. Une fois installé et branché, il faut télécharger l'application sur son smartphone et appairé l'ensemble. L'app permet de contrôler l'évolution de la charge de la batterie. Une jauge indique si une recharge est nécessaire. Il est possible de contrôler la température et la tension de la batterie. Un graphique permet de voir l'évolution de la charge de la batterie dans le temps. La seule chose que je n'ai pas réussi à faire fonctionner c'est la notification sur smartphone des changements d'état de la charge de la batterie (vert = ok; jaune = charger sous peu et rouge = chargement impératif). La liaison bluetooth entre le smartphone et le module est parfaite : en stabilité et en distance.
