Kercan Mini USB Fingerprint Reader for Windows 7,8 & 10 Hello 360° Touch Speedy Matching + 4 Port Aluminum USB HUB

I bought one of these to test for a customer who wants to kit out their entire office with these. As one person mentions, making Windows 10 switch on Biomentrics is annoying and Microsoft really should pull their finger out and fix that. However I had already gone through that hurdle when testing the cheaper BioExcess unit which I bought at the same time. This "Kercan" Elan unit is far superior and is just plug and play with Windows 10. The first time I just set up a finger really quickly just to get going and I didn't really do what they said with scanning my finger at different angles and so on. So initially I was only getting about a 50% success rate. However, when I cleared it and started again, moving my finger into different positions and angles, it was a completely different story. Think about how you are going to use this. You just dab your finger on it and it isn't always going to be in exactly the same way. So go side to side a bit, high, low, twist 45 degrees either way and so on. NOW I have an almost 100% login success. On the odd occasion it fails it is either because I have half missed the thing, or I've just got out of the shower and my finger is still damp. I use this multiple times a day now. I lock my computer whenever I leave it to a) keep out prying eyes and b) protect from our cats walking across the keyboard. Control-Alt-Del and Enter to lock. Dab finger on USB dongle to unlock again. Piece of cake and instant! Make sure you do two fingers on each hand at least. A friend who also bought one of these on my recommendation injured his hand the other day and if he had not scanned a finger on his other hand he would have had to go back to the 20th Century method of typing his password in again! This comes with a free and cute USB hub, but note the cable is very short so if your computer is on the floor it is not going to reach your desktop. Fortunately I have USB sockets on my monitor or I would have needed an extension lead. Note that at my customer we found one Windows 7 machine that was very slow. It is probably the oldest of their 30 computers and that did struggle for a while, but setup was again very easy. To be fair it struggles just to boot in the mornings! I plugged in the USB device and it just needed to download a driver from Windows Update which was automatic and painless. So the other review here which talks of the speed makes a point. But this has nothing to do with this device. A slow computer is a slow computer. Get a new one! Note also that you can not just add multiple fingers, but also multiple peoples' fingers. So we are adding the office manager's finger to each computer/user so that he can access any computer without needing to know the password. Such a great device.

No drivers needed. Identified as "Elan Smart-id Fingerprint" biometric device by ELAN Finger Print on Windows 10. It took about a minute to setup "Windows Hello Fingerprint Login". Easy access with older laptop makes this tiny USB device indispensable. Well done Kercan not had any problems with this device on either Windows 10 laptop I have used. Driver installs straight away & option for fingerprint comes up in settings instantly. Using the one device on 2 laptops but think I will purchase another so I don't have to swap (sometimes I forget) Well done again Kercan, if you want a cheap Windows Hello device then I can highly recommend this one.

Fingerprint ready was a little complicated when setting up for the first time, having to restart the installation process at least 10 times before it recognised all my fingerprints. USB Hub provided as a gift is faulty, when attempting to connect the fingerprint to the Hub, all you hear is the sound of a device being disconnected (on a loop). I attempted to contact Amazon via phone but their telephone support is beyond a joke; they wanted me to send the whole order back, don't get me wrong I understand the policy but having to send the whole order back because only one of the items fully function is too much hassle and to be frank a waste of my time. The fact that there is no option to contact the seller and having to contact Amazon just to have my time wasted is just a pure joke. Because of the faulty USB Hub and the customer support line experience I received as a result of no way to contact the seller, This product gets 2 stars from me.

Very good item. Works straight away, 99% of the time - it has only misread (or not read) my finger print properly once, so far.Setting up with Windows 10 is a bit of a faff, but not the product's fault. A quick Google can help you activate Windows Hello, which takes about 15 minutes.

Product was easy to install and set up. However, it constantly gives false negatives, and Windows Hello will often report a false negative before the fingerprint reader has even been touched! Have set up two users, myself and 6 year old son. It works for me about 60% of the time, and my son perhaps 20% of the time.

Seems to do the job, using it with a Windows 10 desktop and no issues. Would be a good addition to a laptop also as it is very unobtrusive.

really fast..just what I needed as my laptop had only facial recognition which struggled when the background is bright

l'installazione non è stata immediata, ho dovuto cercare i driver su internet, nelle istruzioni (solo in inglese) non è indicato il sito del produttore.una volta installato ho registrato l'impronta di un dito e non l'ha mai riconosciuta.pessimo acquisto, almeno per il mio sistema, una perdita di tempo

Il lettore in sé funziona bene però bisogna essere precisi a posizionare il dito altrimenti non ce la fa a leggere l'impronta
