One is isotonic and one is hyertonic but they don't really market the differences well and how it relates to consumers.

Is the solution sterile? I'm concerned that it could contain bacteria that could cause an infection in the sinuses.

I'm presuming it is. I have used it for a number of years without any ill effects. Once you follow the instructions and rinse the nozzle well after each use - you should be fine. In fact I was using another solution that I had to premix in a bottle before using and my asthma consultant recommended switching to Sterimar, if I had an infection. I now use it all the time instead of the premix as its handier for traveling etc. I hope this answers your question. :)

Is this better or the same as using a sinus rinse?

Just had this issued to me post an op to fix my septum (inner nose). Really good stuff and massively helped in 1. Prevention of dryness and 2. 'Rinsing out' all that post op horribleness (gunk). Nice a gentle too around the stitches. I'm sold on this and probably all the other products for future use.

Can you use this if you have a perforated eardrum ?

This product is 100% natural it is Sea Water with purified Water. I find it works for me.
