Can you help, can I connect my 3g or 4g dongle to the device then plug an ethernet cable to the RJ45 to a computer that has no wireless?

I have not actually tried this but I understand that it is possible to connect your dongle and provide a wifi network so logically you can connect a computer via an Ethernet cable, that's what the connection on the box is for. The speed of the connection will obviously depend on the dongles output I don't know if the speed will be effected by the Ethernet connection, it shouldn't as this is not a factor with a network connection through a normal router. Yes it does and its brilliant, I also use with a apple extreme to express and all works well with an EE sim now get 50M 4G
