Poor quality plastic.
It's a really great at sharpening knives the only problem is that the plastic degrades quickly with use, I managed to sharpen a set of 5 knives twice before the plastic piece that holds the angle in place failed. Prior to this failure I would have highly recommended this it's a shame they chose to make this out of poor quality plastic.

Don't bother with the plastic one
At the time of my purchase, there was only the plastic type available. I thought I'd give it a go since it was cheap, but, usual, I regret wasting my time on it.The main issue is that all the points that require tightening are made up of a metal piece with a thread which screws into a plastic hole which has been threaded. It really doesn't take long at all to strip the thread out of the plastic body. You could try and be more gentle but I found that it didn't even hold steady unless you tightened quite a lot. Doing this, it only lasted 2-3 uses and then the thread gave out. Can't really comment on the stones since they were barely used!I see that there is now a metal type which might be worth trying but I'm not sure I'd even bother with that to be honest!

Does the trick, but quite fragile, only 3 uses out of it.
This whetstone sharpening kit turned the knives I use for work into razors. I purchased the extra set of stones taking it up to 8000 grit. To test the knives afterwards, I could shave my arm with them... I'm not a swimmer but I'm sure they would substitute their razor for a knife after it had been on this jig.HOWEVER! The screws holding the angular rod in place and the sucker attachment at the base, snapped off after 3 uses. The plastic was quite low quality. So I am going to have to buy the metal version of this and have it fixed to a wooden bench instead.

dissapointed
The base DOES NOT stick to any surface, I have had to drill thro and bolt to a base.Angle set up is inaccurate.Do Not use this on an expensive Japanese Knife It will not enhance it in any shape or form .

For the price you can't go wrong, but just don't expect hair popping sharpness
The stones are okay but not great. The sucker base is really good with a bit of water. The main downside is the lack of the device being able to grip the knife as you just have to rest it on the end whilst sharpening which means it can slip, or you can absentmindedly raise the angle, the filings can scratch the knife etc. Unfortunately all the other sharpening systems are stupidly expensive so this will do me for now. It gets an edge but it's not a razor edge.

Ok for the price
Good overall sharpening kit. The suction cup could've been better as it has problems with sticking to surfaces that aren't perfectly smooth. The ball socket that adjusts the position of the surface also could've been tighter so it doest move around as much. The stones are pretty good for sharpening your kitchen knives or everyday pocket knives.

Sticking problems
I had problems sticking the sucker to anything, including a glass tray. Investigation showed that the rubber foot wasn't positioned properly and was not providing a decent seal. Two seconds of fiddling resolved the issue and now the thing sticks very well. The apparatus takes some practice and experimentation with stone angles, there are some good videos on you tube on similar devices.

Poor quality but kinda works
It kind of works, the sucker loses its suction after about 30 seconds, the ball joint that holds it up is too loose so it’s unstable and the bolt that secures the rod support at the back arrived broken but could fix with a spanner. It’s very cheaply made which makes the job harder than it should be but it does do the job.
