Inspiring and interesting
A full review can be found at Postcard Reviews This is a beautiful book by a serious professional.. However... as I have never done raised embroidery or 'stumpwork' as it's also known I was up for the challenge. I have only ever did cross stitch before and have always admired the beautiful embroidery work that I have seen. So I have started this project as a complete beginner. In her book Raised Embroidery, Kelley Aldridge gives a clear and concise guide of all the things you can use to learn and develop key key skills, and I think anyone can be successful and make a project with just this book alone. Her experience shows, and she makes it look quite easy. There are some beautiful projects and the insects are just adorable. It really is an inspiring and interesting craft. This is a book I am going to recommend to all crafters. If you haven't yet tried Raised Embroidery I urge you to try it. I had fun and was really excited by what I achieved. The picture is of something I made using the techniques I learned.

A book In a million
Amazing book!! The projects inside are challenging but well described. I love the pictures of some of the completed projects done at the RSN. I shall never achieve that standard but aspiration is good. I am in the process of trying out some of the stitches and enjoying every minute.

Happy Stitching Bunny
One happy stitching bunny. Kelley, thank you so much for this book. If you want to learn any techniques, then this book, (along with the other RSN technique books), is one of the best places to do so if you can't attend a class at the RSN or to use as a back up to a class. Whatever the reason for buying Kelley's book, it is a MUST for your book shelves.

Inspiring but lacking
This is a beautiful and inspiring book. The techniques it demonstrates will give great pleasure to those starting to use raised embroidery, but it is lacking. To give one example, in the essential equipment it shows three dimensional formers to use for stitching shaped pieces but nowhere in the book does it indicate or demonstrate their use. Those who can work out how to use these probably don't need this book, but I also suspect that after working some of the techniques in this book many will also work it out for themselves. It wouldn't normally be a recommendation of a book for it to send you to search YouTube videos, but a strength of this book is that it shows basics and also inspiring pieces that need further techniques. It isn't the only book you will need, it is a starting book. I don't regret buying it, but it could do with a follow up.

Not all craft books are written well but this book on Raised Embroidery is really well done. The author deals with the practical of materials and equipment but also presents some good beginner projects to try. Raised embroidery, historically, was developed before stump work so if you are hoping to develop these skills, get this book first.
