Sounds good
Am happy with the device. Very simple to use, eq has 5 bars. Pretty basic, only makes minimal adjustments. Sounds OK on Heavy setting and unique setting. The others can sound abit 'tinny'. Bass boost is clear as Sony always is. Unit is very light weight, buttons easy to use. I use for the gym and the car as I was using my Samsung a52s 5g. It is abit on the quiet side but with the right headphones it makes a difference. I use AKG earphones which are loud on full volume. But on my Sony XM3 cans it's abit quietter, sound quality is smooth on them though. Memory is easy to fill and so glad I can do drag and drop rather than Sony music centre (sorry Sony). For those on Chromebook....its excellent, the drag and drop is so simple, and I find it quicker and more stable than Windows!!!I do recommend this device for all types of music lovers. I have everything from wu tang, to limp bizkit, black sabbath to Sean Paul and Buju Banton and each sound nice. For the car it sounds good, and at work it's one less phone screen to look which is what I need. It's easy to switch off and just listen to shuffle without getting more blue light.

Great Sony MP3 Player - worth the money!
In the past, my sister and I bought cheaper MP3 players(we're on a budget) but they proved to be not very user friendly - with instructions that you'd feel like sending to a Bletchley Park codebreaker (they were that complex) to decipher, amongst other problems - such as obsolete software. My sister really wanted one and she was treated to a Sony MP3 Walkman for her birthday because she wanted something that was simple to operate (she's a technophobe), simple to understand with quality sound and good battery life i.e. a long time between charge and running out of juice etc. Happily, my sister hasn't looked back since buying hers and told me I should consider buying a Sony MP3 for myself. I have had Sony products for years which are still going strong … but, because of my past experiences of MP3 players, I was in two minds: would this later version of my sister's Sony be as user friendly? Eventually, I took the plunge and bought mine (which I'm reviewing now). Happily, I feel the same way as my sister did. It has great battery charge life, great sound (as you would expect from Sony) and is light and handy. The fact that this current model has the volume controls on the side and the HOLD button to stop accidental skipping of tracks by accident directly underneath it - which is far better than holding down buttons to do the same function! I've downloaded the free Sony Music Centre app from the internet which I've used to add and delete albums and tracks to and from the MP3 player. I'm still finding my way round this piece of kit and enjoying every minute.

Sony walkman
Its not bad but my old Sony MP3 player is better, has more functions and is not made from cheap plastic material like this one, which I paid the same price as this one, its pretty average. Sound quality is good, lacks a lot of functions so its much more simple and it is easy to use. I have to say its not the best Sony MP3 player specially at that price.

Piece of Plastic
I had one with Bluetooth and much more features, metallic, bought in Japan more than 20 years ago of excellent quality with excellent battery quality, nice and smooth design, nice characters and menu presentation, easy and soft manipulation ...I got it stolen...and I replace it by a piece of plastic which is not worth the price, crappy display, crappy buttons, day and night compare to my original one ....shame on you Sony you deserve not even a star!

Great little mp3 player
Its surprisingly hard to find a good quality stand alone mp3 player nowadays.. this little Sony fits the bill perfectly. Yes its a bit more expensive than some of the other mp3 players on Amazon but having experienced two of the cheaper ones over the last few years I can say that the extra cash is money well spent: it is very easy to use with intuitive menus and superb sound quality . So easy to add music to ( just click and drop from your pc) . All in all could not be more pleased with this Sony mp3 player.

I found it a bit of a challenge finding a good brand at a reasonable price
My daughter wanted an mp3 player rather than using her mobile phone on the bus and tram.I searched high and low but was determined to get her a decent quality player. I suppose with the advent of mobile phones there is not much of a market for mp3 players any more. I found it a bit of a challenge finding a good brand at a reasonable price.I bought this Sony mp3 player as Sony is renowned for good quality. She is really pleased with it as it's really easy to transfer mp3's from her laptop to the player. the battery life is excellent and the user interface is simple and easy to use.I would recommend this mp3 player. The only reason I have given it 4 stars and not 5 is because I would really have liked to get one of these in a 16 gig or even a 32 gig.

A new iteration of an old friend
I have learnt from experience that there some things a company does much better than everyone else and it's worth going to the extra expense and this is a case in point. I have had a variety of Walkmans over the years but decided that a change was needed a few months back and opted for a Sandisk Clip - it sounded OK but its clunky software, short battery life, it's tendency to lose its place, the poor hold function and the fact that you had to use a FAT sorter every time you added new music got old very quickly.Returning to Sony was like coming home; it sounds good, the battery life is good and everything is in the right place.

Sony Walkman 8GB
Bought this to replace an old style Sony Walkman 4gb mp3 player. Music was easy to transfer onto it after connecting without issue to my PC. Displays album art on a relatively easy screen to read (I wear glasses). Various equaliser settings and ways of playing music (such as all songs or by Artist or Album, etc). The bass boost is what I like. All in all very pleased with my purchase. I know there are cheaper ones but quality of those seems to vary so thought I'd stick with Sony quality.
