For a book on something like crystal ball gazing - for many, considered the very epitome of woo-woo - author Uma Silbey takes an incredibly down-to-earth and pragmatic approach to the topic. It's one of the many strengths of this book which, although a relatively slim volume (weighs in around 175 pages), still succeeds in being an all-you-need-to-know guide for the ancient and multi-faceted tool that is the crystal ball.'Crystal Ball Gazing' offers a concise history of scrying as well as detailing the various types of crystal balls available and how to choose one that suits your needs. But where it excels, at least for me, is in its detailing a wide variety of uses for the crystal ball. In fact, fortune-telling - often seen as the most prolific way to use a crystal ball, at least from popular media - hardly features at all, the author instead focusing on healing, meditation, relaxation, self-counselling, dealing with breakdowns in communication and much more.A very high recommend indeed for beginners as well as old pros looking for a fresh perspective and alternative uses of a versatile and potentially powerful tool.

Many would disagree that crystals and mirrors can be most successfully scried in bright light, but otherwise there is not much to say that is negative about the book -- well presented, some tips that are well worth considering, and to be fair she does address all the possible ambiences that can be created to see visions successfully. It could be argued that the book makes it all too complicated -- when in fact if you were to read 'The Rosicrucian Seer' (The magical writings of Frederick Hockley) you would see that it need not be complicated at all. But then if the whole knowledge of the subject was to be condensed to the most essential facts then you would only have a book with about 5 pages .... so the'padding' is still worth a gander. If this subject interests you then you won't be wasting your money.

As a complete novice to crystal ball reading, I found this little book to be just what I needed to get me started. Uma Silbey writes in such a way as not to make someone like myself feel foolish about the matter. I read it quickly first time around and am only now really reading and inwardly digesting, (as my school teachers would have said), the book.Suffice to say I bought a crystal ball and hopefully am learning the true use of it.I would recommend it.

Really warm to the author. My parents bought this for me when I was younger years ago and unfortunately we lost it, but I recently re purchased it after finding it on here trying to re establish my collection and so glad I did as I forgot how sweet it is. A friendly introduction to using your crystal ball for loads of different reasons.

So far the book is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a beginner level book and as someone familiar with other intuitive methods, I wanted something that didn't talk down to me. I'm about halfway through the book and have found it easy to read, and great basic information.
