Yes, but not too heavy items. The inside is not lined.

Can these suitcases be used for air travel

Hmm good question. I believe they are not sturdy enough. They lock up well enough, but the sides could break on impact of tossed. May not on s plane but where you are handling your own luggage it may be ok. I use them to store items in my sitting room. And everyone comments on how good they are.

Interested in the trunks but measurements seem rather small are you sure the largest is 44.9cm & not inches ?

They are not large. I bought them for my son who wanted under the bed storage. They fit side by side under the bed. The largest fits jumpers in but wouldn't fit anything larger. They are quite impressive though! My son is very pleased with them.
