Excellent sound and beautiful design
I'm still in the first 10 hours of the breakin period for these speakers, but I can safely say I'm already hugely impressed.I've tested them with a variety of sounds, from action movies, to acoustic guitar music, to drum and bass, these speakers do them all VERY well. There's no doubt these speakers have a bit more kick to them on the low end, but it's subtle, not dramatic or overdone like other brands (I'm looking at you Beats). The build of these is great, couple of solid inputs, good volume control on the front and although the controller is simple, it's very appreciated.Sound quality is brilliant, good solid bass from the large 5" woofers but still retains very good clarity in the higher registers and midtones. As I continue through the burn in period, I'm sure this will continue to improve.I fiddled about wondering whether to get these for a while, my suggestion... Just go for it, you won't be disappointed!

Great Sound Quality, but a few tiny niggles...
First of all - The reasons for the 4 stars:-It's very hard to know how loud the speakers are set to. As the volume knob turns infinitely the only indication volume levels are being changed are by a small flashing light on the front. There is no actual level markings to see how loud you currently are.-The speakers are designed to be sat on a desk and so the tweeters at the top should be at eye level (or angled at) to get the best sound however as there is no stand/ledge type thing included you will need to provide your own to enjoy these speakers at their best.-Low volume bass is a bit weak which is why I guess they produce the optional subwoofer as at louder volumes the bass response is more that adequate.I purchased these speakers as a replacement to an awful TV Surround Sound system that I was using for music playback and I must say the sound quality is incredible. The speakers and associated cables come wrapped in microfibre drawstring bags which are very nice for shipping but I don't really see a used for them after you opened that box! The speakers are very simply laid out one speaker being powered with the amp inside and the second speaker just being passive with a single speaker wire going to it from the powered (left) speaker. The speaker wire provided is very nice quality and around 2m in length so there is plenty of it even for the widest of desks. I did initially have a very strange issue with my left speaker however. Music was playing in the right (passive) speaker but the left had no audio. I could not understand what the issue was so I removed the back plate the check the wires from the amp to the speaker were wired correctly. They were so I screwed the plate back on and the speaker magically started working!? Apart from that small niggle and scare the speakers have been excellent.Within a few days I had got through the 24 hour burn in period and they sound absolutely delicious. They would not be suitable as studio monitors as there is a noticeable EQ however for everyday listening the EQ only serves to improve the audio experience. The most noticeable thing, compared to a lot of cheaper speakers, the mids are not scooped! Finally a set of speakers where the vocals sound as prominent as the highs and bass. The bass is a bit amplified but only subtly. The sound produced is crisp at all frequencies and I've yet to find an issue with the sound quality. In conclusion these are fantastic speakers and I can't recommend them enough. I just wish they spent the money from the microfibre bags on tilted stands instead!

Extremely good bookshelf/desk top speakers with built-in amplifier
I use these to listen to HiRes music from my laptop when 'on the road' and they produce an impressive full sound. Due to their solid build quality and built-in amplifier, they are not light to carry but when fed a good signal (via an audioengine D1 DAC in my case) they sound almost as good as our much more expensive and bulkier HiFi speakers. I have played everything from harp solos, full orchestral, prog rock, female vocals and Blu-ray soundtracks through them, all with stunning clarity and good extended bass response (don't expect the ultra-low bass of a sub-woofer). They are supplied with a good length of reasonable quality 2-channel speaker cable so positioning for a good stereo soundstage is not a problem. Very highly recommended especially if you can purchase for under £200 (I would have prefered the bamboo finish but that was £100 more at the time of purchase, so I chose the white).

I should have known better than to buy another pair
Played OK for ten minutes, then crackle, pop dead, no sound. I brought these to replace a pair of A5's which lasted just beyond the warranty period before dying in a similar fashion. I should have known better than to buy another pair. I'll never buy from AE again. I've now read all the threads about these things overheating and failing, should have done that before I got the A5+ but they were a good price and I didn't think I'd be unlucky twice, however, it seems it's a pattern, and I was actually lucky to get 3 years out of my A5's. Good sounding speakers, I got them at under £200 (refunded), but I guess you get what you pay for, that's why my new speakers are KEF x300a, no that's a good speaker!

Don't buy for the sound alone
Had for a while now having picked them up when a sudden price drop appeared as a replacement for my old Mission 2+1 set up. They work well and are nicely made, but sound wise they are nothing special. I use them with an Arcam DAC fed from the PC over USB. Spoilt by my Naim system in the other room I guess but when you put these on you are thinking all the time that its not proper hi fi. I was expecting more but the sound is a bit dull and unexciting. Lots of people will like them though. But a decent set of headphones (with a DAC) will be far more satisfying and cost about the same.

Brilliant small Speakers with a BIG punch. Well made and sound amazing.
After a very big disappointment with these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N7OOSHA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I am so glad I read the reviews and chose these..amazing. You will NOT need a Subwoofer with them, trust me! Rock, Drum & Bass, they will play it all flawlessly. I have them in my kitchen and will buy a wireless adapter so I can play my PC through them too..Well worth it..I am in the process of downloading a music eq app for my phone so I can turn the bass down a bit!!! These small speakers pack a big punch and are WELL worth the money, don't bother with anything else. Mine are white so were cheaper, but who cares? I only paid £260 for mine, from AdvancedMp3 ..
